摘要:
One class of hydrophilic lens deposits appears as small, discrete spots under low magnification. Higher magnification of cross sections reveals partially crystalline structures which actually extend into the lens matrix. Histochemical stains indicate the presence of tear film components within these deposits.

摘要:
In order for tears to be removed from the eye, pressure gradients must be created in the ducts which lead to the nose. Blinking is only one of a number of mechanisms potentially capable of doing this. Pressure in the lacrimal canaliculus was recorded during voluntary blinks, tight squeezing of the lids, eye movements, and pressure changes in the nose. The results show that all of these produce pressure changes in the canaliculus.

摘要:
Two groups of children were screened by selected optometrical tests. Infants between the ages of 3 and 24 months and kindergarten children aged from 2 to 5 years were tested. The results indicated that meaningful data can be obtained from both groups and that the tests revealed visuosensory and visuomotor defects, correction of which at an early stage is not only desirable but, in most cases, essential.

摘要:
The sine-squared law is shown to describe changes in spherical power which either minimize the blur or maximize the visibility of gratings oriented at various angles to the principal meridians of an astigmatic eye. These results help justify the use of the sine-squared law in applications such as meridional refraction. This derivation and its interpretation is quite different from the usual approach which emphasizes the meridional changes in curvature of a toric surface.

摘要:
Cholinergic drugs and anticholinesterases have caused ocular complications including cataracts, iris cysts, retinal detachment, iritis, increased intraocular tension, allergic and toxic reactions, and hyperemia. The visual complications include accommodative spasm; myopia and reduced visual acuity; changes in vision sensitivity, dark adaptation, and visual fields; and discomfort. The systemic complications are those common to cholinergic drugs and anticholinesterases. This review is intended as a ready reference to the drugs that cause such effects and source material.

A method of initiating an after-image in an amblyopic eye with eccentric fixation by using Haidinger's brush for fixation control is described. This technique makes home oleoptics possible.

摘要:
In the cases reported, the anisometropia had not been corrected previously. Despite the common belief that such a correction would induce intolerable symptoms in adults, both patients successfully adapted to the full correction within a few days, showing marked improvement in binocular vision skills.

摘要:
The Generation II is a modification of the Army's night photography /observation instrumentation. Low levels of light are intensified approximately 700 times to stimulate cone function. The individual with no rod function is able to see at night under these intensified amounts of illumination. The device can be used for night “spotting and mobility” purposes, much like a telescope is used during the day by the partially-sighted with intact rod function and poor cone function. This paper is presented to inform the optometrist of the availability and usefulness of this device for his patients.

摘要:
A teaching program that uses video tape and simulated patients assists the student in developing skills necessary for good professional relationships with patients and augments the student's ability in patient inverviewing and effective interview behavior. Role-playing by selected drama students and community theatre actors involves common problems encountered in the optometrist's office and management of problem patients (angry, aggressive, shy, withdrawn, talkative, flirt, hypocondriac, etc.).
