There have been only 21 reported cases of erythema gyratum repens in the dermatological literature. Its impressive clinical appearances and constant association with malignancy pose interesting questions. We wish to present a further patient with erythema gyratum repens on whom detailed immunological investigations have been performed.

SUMMARYThe immunofluorescent patterns in the skin of eighteen patients with Besnier's prurigo were studied at different stages of eczematous lesions. The presence, distribution pattern, and numbers of immunoglobulin and complement‐positive lymphocytes in twenty‐nine biopsies are reported.In all cases IgE‐positive lymphocytes were present in both clinically uninvolved and involved skin. IgG, IgM and IgE‐positive lymphocytes showed a characteristic distribution pattern in the dermis. In the acute stages IgM deposition was prominent in the basement membrane zone and it is suggested that damage to the basement membrane results in diffusion of immunoglobulin and complement into the epidermis. SUMMARYSeventy‐six cases of focal epithelial hyperplasia were encountered during an epidemiological survey in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. They affected only Cape Coloureds and were confined to pupils of reform schools and residents of a secluded community. This pattern of distribution, coupled with its typical clinical and histological features and the fact that viral particles were observed in lesions, indicates a communicable disease of viral origin, possibly a virus of the papova group. SUMMARYInvolvement of the large intestine in a long standing case of dystrophic epidermolysis bullosa was characterized by recurrent episodes of diarrhoea synchronizing with exacerbation ofthe skin lesions. The radiological investigations revealed two narrow segments, one each in the descending and transverse colon, with ulcer craters in the lower part of the former. The haustra from the distal half of the transverse colon to the sigmoid colon were lost.
