摘要:
AbstractBody tissues from Japanese quail, which had received various amounts of lead in their diet, were investigated by atomic absorption spectrometry and transmission electron miscroscopy. A fine structural analysis was made of material fixed in either glutaraldehyde alone, or in glutaralde‐hyde followed by post‐fixation in osmic acid. Special attention was paid to the reproductive organs. Nuclear inclusion bodies characteristic of lead poisoning were found within the tubular epithelium of the kidney, within hepatocytes, the germinal epithelium of the male and follicle cells of the ovaries. The possibility that lead might bind to acidic nuclear proteins which influence specific gene regulation is sugges

摘要:
AbstractThe fine structure was investigated of body tissues from Japanese quails which had received lead acetate added to their diet. A double fixation using glutaraldehyde and postfixation in osmic acid was compared with a fixation in glutaraldehyde alone. Because of the lack of contrast obtained in the specimens from the latter fixation, the presence of metal residues within the tissues were readily observable under the electron microscope. The various metal residues found in storage bodies in ovarian tissues from lead‐poisoned quails were analyzed by means of energy‐dispersive X‐ray spectrometrical analysis. Out of a total of eight electron‐dense, metal‐containing inclusions which were analyzed, two contained lead. Other elements found in the inclusions were chlorine, phosphorus, iron and calcium, the latter element not being present in detectable amounts in those inclusions which also contained lead. Some correlation was found between the morphology and the elemental composition of the metal

摘要:
AbstractSpermiogenesis inEptatretus stoutii, E. deaniandE. sp.display great similarities. Minor differences appear in the acrosomal structure. The spermatozoan has a long middle piece in which the axonema is surrounded by a sheath, consisting of a very few mitochondria, a feature usually associated with internal fertilization.

摘要:
AbstractRipe females and males of Eptatretus burgeri were kept in cages both in the sea and in the aquaria for about 2 months of the normal spawning period around October. All the 9 ripe females in the sea ovulated all their eggs (200) and deposited 178 of them. Only 5 eggs were ovulated and deposited in the aquaria, although there were 17 ripe females and some of them were injected with various hormones in an effort to induce ovulation. No eggs were fertilized. A peculiar surface pattern of hexagonal ridges is described around the entrance of the micropylar canal on the bottom of the micropylar funnel in the ovulated eggs.

摘要:
AbstractThe ultrastructure of erythrophores and melanophores present in the skin of adultTilapia mossambicais described. A comparison of the two types of chromatophores indicates that both show a smooth endoplasmic reticulum, pinocytotic vesicles, microtubules and complexly branching cell processes. However, differences in the form, consistency and distribution of erythrosomes and melanosomes are noted. It is suggested that erythrophores be defined as chromatophores including carotenoid derivatives as the main pigment in their erythrosomes.

摘要:
AbstractScanning electron microscopic studies of the inner surfaces of the follicular cavities in the endocrine pancreas ofMyxine glutinosahave revealed two types of follicles. The predominant type of follicles is lined by cells bearing microvilli, while the rare second type has smooth surfaced cavities. It is postulated, that the microvillous cells absorb material stored in these follicles, while the smooth surfaced follicles are disintegrating.
