摘要:
AbstractRaina, A. K., Borg, T. K.1980. Corpora cardiaca‐allata complex of the larvae of the pink bollworm,Pectinophora gossypiella. An ultrastructural study in relation to diapause. (Department of Entomology, North Dakota State University of South Carolina, School of Medicine, Columbia, U.S.A.) —Acta zool.(Stockh.) 61(2): 65–77.The corpora cardiaca (CC) and corpora allata (CA) of the pink bollworm,Pectinophora gossypiella, were studied at the ultrastructural level during induction maintenance, and termination of larval diapause. The CC is composed of 5–6 intrinsic secretory (IS) cells, glial cells, and axons that carry electron dense (ED) and electron lucent (EL) granules from the brain. The IS cells produce ED granules with an average diameter of 110 ± 26 nm. During diapause, the axons with ED granules showed large accumulations of neurosecretory granules, but the axons with the EL granules contained lesser amounts. The CA is made up of approximately 25 large cells and axons that pass through the CC from the brain. Most of the axons take up a peripheral position. A characteristic feature of CA cells during diapause was the presence of stacks of convoluted tubules of the smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER) that may be associated with juvenile hormone synthesis. The IS cells of the CC appeared to be inactive during

AbstractJørgensen, J. M.1980. The morphology of the Lorenzinian ampullae of the sturgeonAcipenser ruthenus(Pisces: Chondrostei). (Zoological Laboratory, University of Aarhus, Denmark.) —Acta zool.(Stockh.) 61 (2): 87–92.The snout of a sturgeon,Acipenser ruthenus(Chondrostei, Osteichthyes) is provided with sensory pores. Light and electron microscopical examination of these reveals that the ampullary organs have a sensory epithelium very similar to what has been found in the Lorenzinian ampullae, which are electroreceptors previously examined at a fine structural level in elasmobranchs and the paddle‐fish,Polyodon spathula. The sensory cells are pear‐shaped with a very small apical part, in the centre of which there is a short cilium. Basally, the sensory cells make several contacts with button‐shaped nerve‐endings. The presumed synaptic area in the sensory cell is characterized by a presynaptic sheet surrounded by vesicles. Only one type of nerve ending, an afferent type, has b

AbstractKaiser, H.1980. Licht‐ und elektronenmikroskopische Untersuchung des Corpus cardiacum des EintagsfliegeEphemera danicaMüll. (Ephemeroptera: Ephemeridae) während der Metamorphose. [Light‐ and electron microscopic investigation on the corpus cardiacum in the mayflyEphemera danicaMüll. (Ephemeroptera: Ephemeridae) during metamorphosis.] (Zoologisches Institut der Universität Basel, Schweiz.) —Acta zool.(Stockh.) 61(2): 93–103.The corpus cardiacum (cc) ofEphemera danicais an unpaired organ in the dorsal wall of the aorta. During the last four instars there has been no significant change in the volume of the cc of the males. In the females, however, the cc enlarges in the final nymphal instar due to a thickening of the organ. Owing to a shortening prior to the subimaginal moult the volume has diminished in the subimagines and imagines. In the electron microscope different types of axons and secretory granules could be observed. The type a axons contain electron opaque granules with a mean diameter of 125 nm. The granules in the axons of type b are smaller (mean diameter 85 nm) and are more or less electron opaque, and the type c axons are filled with less electron opaque secretory droplets with mean diameters of 170 nm. In the fourth type of axons (d) the granules are approximately the same size as those of the type a but are more irregular in shape. In addition to the different axons two cell types—interstitial and secretory cells—are described, and the probable mechanism of the release of neurosecretory material is discussed. During metamorphosis only minor changes were apparent at the ultras

摘要:
AbstractBenjamin, M.1980. A correlation between pituitary and integumentary structure in the nine‐spined stickleback,Pungitius pungitiusL. (Department of Anatomy, University College, Cardiff, Wales, U.K.) —Acta zool.(Stockh.) 61(2): 105–109.Naturally occurring, large pituitary cysts, that almost excluded prolactin cells from the pituitary ofPungitius pungitiusL., offered a unique opportunity to study a target organ for prolactin (the integument) in fish that were “partially hypophysectomised” without any accompanying surgical trauma. In fish with large pituitary cysts, the epidermis from the lateral body wall was thinner and its mucocytes less abundant, than in fish with normal pituitaries and thus many prolactin cells. In support of the hypothesis that prolactin produced the observed integumentary changes, was the similarity of other pituitary cells in animals with and without cysts. Evidently, prolactin can influence the integument ofPungitius, even though it does not seem essential for freshwater

AbstractHess, R. T., Poinar, Jr., G. O., Etzel, L., Merritt, C. C.1980. Calyx particle morphology ofBathyplectes anurusandB. curculionis(Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae). (Department of Entomological Sciences, University of California, Barkeley, California, U.S.A.) —Acta zool.(Stockh.) 61(2): 111–116.The calyx regions of the ichneumonid waspsBathyplectes anurusandB. curculioniswere observed with the electron microscope to contain ovoid membrane‐bound particles, 300 nm long by 250 nm wide. These particles were produced in nuclei associated with fibrous strands from which they appeared to bud. Particles apparently moved into the cytoplasm and budded into the calyx lumen, thereby acquiring the host's plasma membrane. The similarities and differences of these particles to the calyx particles of other wasps is disc

摘要:
AbstractLindahl, K.1980. The gonadotropic cell in parr, precocious parr male and smolt of the Atlantic salmon,Salmo salar. An immunocytological, light‐ and electron microscopical study. (Department of Zoology, University of Stockholm, Sweden.) —Acta zool.(Stockh.) 61(2): 117–125.Only one GTH cell type was identified in thepars distalisof the parr, smolt and precocious parr male. On a fine structural basis four phases with transitional forms of the GTH cell were recognized. In parr and smolt the GTH cells have numerous secretory granules and their cytology substantiate that they are in a storing phase with a possibly low release rate. On the contrary, in the precocious parr male all phases of the GTH cell are present. The great number of active cells and frequent degranulation and vacuolization indicate a high activity and release
