摘要:
Two hundred and thirty seven chemicals were tested to determine their effect on the germination ofOrobanche aegyptiacaandStrigahermontheca. From their activity in these tests and a knowledge of their general properties the following are regarded as being the most promising for the pre-em. control of (1)Orobanche— oryzalin, dichlobenil, chlorthiamid, nitralin and chloramben. (2)Striga— 2, 4-D, MCPA and a range of other phenoxy compounds, chlorfenac, with MON 097, prynachlor, PH 40–21, PRB-8, RU 12068 and U 27658 showing the most interesting activity among the newer compounds.

摘要:
Experiments carried out over several seasons showed that, on a soil prone to crusting, cultivations after the establishment of a cotton crop only increased yields in a season of low rainfall. This yield increase appeared to have been due to enhanced entry into the soil of the limited effective rainfall. In one season of high rainfall, deep cultivation significantly reduced yields.

摘要:
In a weed survey, 88 species of weeds, belonging to 30 families, were found growing in the arable lands of the East Pakistan Agricultural University Farms. In East Pakistan, hand-weeding is still almost the only means used for controlling weeds in crop fields. The results of trials conducted at the East Pakistan Agricultural University for controlling weeds in jute are reported.
