摘要:
An experiment was designed to test the efficacy of various insecticides for the control of mustard aphid (Lipaphis erysimi(Kalt)) on mustard (Brassica juncea), variety RL 18 at the Research Farm of the Haryana Agricultural University, Hissar (India). Out of the 13 insecticides tried, each at two levels, it was found that methyldemeton 250 ml and menazon 250 g a.i. gave the maximum control of mustard aphid. Maximum yield of 1111 kg/ha was obtained with methyldemeton 250 ml (a.i./ha) against 360 kg/ha of the control.

摘要:
As a sequel to the work carried out in 1968, and the appendix to the Fourth Quarterly Report of the International Capsid Research Team of that year, further information was required on the performance and efficiency of the mistblowers in current use. With this as the primary objective, a programme was arranged to compare a number of mistblowers, for performance and efficiency and more important, the ability to place a toxic quantity of insecticide in all parts of the cocoa tree to control capsid infestation. There are several spray programmes being carried out at the Institute and the equipment in use is similar to that used by farmers for capsid control.

The annual reports of the Herbicide Research Unit of the University of the West Indies were a regular feature of past issues ofPANS. Although the Herbicide Research Unit is no longer in being, investigations on weed control problems are still in progress, as part of the programme of the newly-formed Agronomy Research Unit. This article briefly reports some of the weed control work carried out by this unit in Jamaica during 1970.

Investigation on seed production potentialities of weeds of Dharwar was carried out at the Agricultural College Farm, during January 1969. Both the parasitic weedsStriga and Orobancheshowed high seed production,Strigaproducing as many as 380,000 seeds per plant followed byOrobanchewith 230,000 seeds per plant. Among the weeds studied,Desmodium diffusumproduced the least (425) seeds per plant.
