As a powder seed treatment on wheat, barley and oats a mixture of quinacetal-sulphate + maneb + γ -BHC gives a disease control spectrum similar to that of organo-mercury standards, except against oat leaf spot (Pyrenophora avenae) on which quinacetal-sulphate + maneb is more effective. In small-plot trials under poor seed-bed conditions the quinacetal-sulphate mixture gave improved crop establishment compared with organo-mercury standards possibly due to improved activity against soil-borne pathogens. Overdose rates were better tolerated than overdoses of organo-mercury + γ -BHC. Of 63 farmers in the UK supplied with seed treated in commercial equipment, 60 obtained improved plant stands with quinacetal-sulphate + maneb + γ -BHC in comparison with organo-mercury standards. The farm results were achieved in favourable as well as unfavourable seed-bed conditions and appear to be due to the better tolerance by individual cereal seeds of overdoses of the quinacetal-sulphate mixture.

摘要:
Basagran is the trade name of a post-emergence herbicide belonging to the thiadiazines. The active ingredient is bentazon. It was developed by BASF for the control of broadleaved weeds in soyabeans. Bentazon is a contact herbicide with low mammalian and fish toxicity. As it is absorbed by the green parts of the plants, full coverage is essential for complete success. It is selective in soyabeans at all stages of crop growth, and has a broad herbicidal spectrum. Annual weeds in soyabeans, including cocklebur. (Xanthium pensylvanicum) which is a serious problem in the soya-growing areas of the USA, are effectively controlled by 0.75–1.0 kg a.i. bentazon/ha. The most suitable time of application was found to be between the development of the first and third trifoliate leaves of the crop.

Further work with the herbicide C 19490 (S-(2-methyl-1-piperidyl-carbonylmethyl)-O,O-di-N-propyl dithiophosphate) in the mixture C 288 with the triazine C 18898 in the ratio 4:1, and with 2,4-D isopropyl ester (2,4-D IPE) in the ratios 2:1 and 3:2 have been completed. New toxicological data show that the risk of toxicity hazards to the user or to other mammals by contamination is low. Residue work shows that C 19490 leaves very low or undetectable residues in rice grain and soil, though C 18898 was detected in both, but never at more than 0.28 ppm in soil or more than 0.04 ppm in grain. There was no interaction between either C 19490 or C 288 and commonly used insecticides. Uptake of the products by plants was shown to be preferentially through emerging shoots, and less through roots.

An experimental herbicide, AC 92,553 has been developed by Cyanamid International to control most annual grasses and several small-seeded broad-leaved weeds, applied either pre- or post-seeding on a wide range of crops. The influence of soil and weather conditions on the effectiveness of the herbicide are discussed. Suggested combinations with other herbicides and rates of application are given. The results of toxicity studies are summarised.
