摘要:
This paper extends a replacement model based on failure number to include a repair-cost limit for general failure distributions. The stochastic behaviour of failures and repair costs are modelled by a non-homogeneous Poisson process. An efficient marginal analysis algorithm is presented for finding the optimal failure number for replacement that minimizes the average cost rate.

摘要:
A complex dynamical behaviour called ‘chaos” is observed in mathematical models expressed in the form of recurrences with a non-unique inverse. The chaotic solutions of such second-order point-mappings are located in bounded domains of the phase plane, called chaotic areas. All the attractive limit sets of an endomorph-ism, whatever the nature may be, are located in phase plane domains designated by absorptive areas. The variation of a parameter can modify the nature of these areas. Different bifurcations occurring in absorptive and chaotic areas are described in this paper. These bifurcations are illustrated by the study of an example related to a linear piecewise recurrence.

摘要:
The linear estimation problem constitutes one of the simplest classes of problems, to which the unifying and powerful partitioning approach of Lainiotis applies. In the Lainiotis and Andrisani partitioning algorithm, model partitioning consists simply of decomposing both the initial state and process noise vectors into the sum of two independent random vectors. In this paper, a comparative computational analysis with respect to computer time and storage requirements is made between a new partitioning linear estimation algorithm and the Kalman filter for time varying models. The new algorithm constitutes a per-sample version of the above Lainiotis and Andrisani partitioning algorithm. The practical usefulness of the new algorithm is demonstrated by applying the comparative computational analysis to the important class of multisensor estimation problems.

摘要:
A constrained minimum-variance prediction using self-tuning ideas is presented. Generalized cost functions are considered which penalize the prediction error as well as several choices of increments of prediction. It is claimed that constraining the prediction increments (or, differences in prediction) leads to more realistic and improved prediction strategies. The proposed formulations are developed on an ARIMAX process model, as it is believed that such a representation is more appropriate in practice. Various features are incorporated into the prediction algorithms to make them particularly suitable for real-time applications.

In a rapidly changing and complex environment, facility location decisions require careful evaluation; both quantitative and qualitative factors must be considered. Existing methods emphasize the quantitative aspects of such decisions. In this paper, we introduce a new method that provides a framework for a comprehensive analysis of both qualitative and quantitative factors in order to reach a logical and rational decision for choosing a site.
