摘要:
A methodology is developed for the modelling and analysis of waste management (WM) aspects in growth oriented national planning in a systems' framework. Four models developed at different levels of aggregation, i.e., W-G model, I-O-W model, GP model, and B-C model, have been reviewed with reference to their basic framework, special features, and applicabilities. The basic technologies used in these models are simulation, input-output analysis, goal programming, and physical system theory. The aspects involved in the long-range planning of input /, output O, and wasteWparameters have been outlined with particular reference to the use of these models. Aggregation-disaggregation procedures, resource-wise as well as sector-wise, have been presented to facilitate the integration of models at different levels of aggregation. A coordinated view of these models is presented in the form of a flow chart, which may be used for planning and monitoring the economic growth profiles. Some broad guidelines to national policy on WM have been enumerated.

摘要:
The concept of linear systems given by Mesarovic and Takahara (1975) is generalized to the model of general systems introduced by Ma and Lin (1987). Examples are given to show the difference between the old and the new concepts of linear systems. The fundamental theorem of linear systems theory proved by Mesarovic and Takahara (1975) is verified in a new way. An equivalent description of the concept that an input-output system is a linear system, and the stability and uniform stability of input-output linear systems are studied.

摘要:
An algorithm for generating a sequence of polynomials of descending degree is illustrated. This algorithm becomes the usual Euclid algorithm for particular parameter values. A split form of the basic recursion is derived, and a stability test is presented in table form. A geometrical proof of the rules for finding the right half-plane and left half-plane zeros of the original polynomial is given. The relationship with the Routh algorithm is pointed out. The possible use of the suggested algorithm for flexible model reduction is also outlined.

摘要:
The contribution of this paper is two-fold. First, it introduces a new orthogonal series approach to the state-space analysis of linear time-invariant systems. This approach yields explicit expressions for the state and output vector coefficient matrices. These expressions only involve the multiplication of matrices of small dimensions. No algebraic system of equations needs to be solved, and therefore no inversion of large matrices is required here, as compared to other known techniques. The second contribution consists of using this new orthogonal series technique to solve the state-space identification problem. It is shown that by appropriately manipulating the aforementioned state-space analysis results, an algorithm is derived which yields the state-space system matrixA. This algorithm gives a new outlook and a better insight into the state-space identification problem.

Transfer lines with inter-stage buffers and unreliable servers are often modelled by means of Markov chains. Because of the large number of states, solving the steady-state equations of the chain is not a trivial task. This paper proposes a two-level iterative scheme for computing the steady-state probability distribution. In the framework of non-negative matrix theory some general results are proved which guarantee the convergence of the proposed procedure. Moreover, numerous numerical experiments are given, which show that the two-level iterative scheme enjoys a very good rate of convergence. The method also works suitably for solving the steady-state probability equation of chains modelling systems with more than three stages.

The design of reduced-order state observers for linear multivariable systems is considered. The procedure used is based on the assignment of prespecified sets of eigenvalues and associated eigenvectors to the observer model, whereby the state estimation error is effectively governed. It is shown, in particular, that the restrictions on the assignable eigenvectors are removed when the number of system outputs equals or exceeds half the number of state variables. Moreover, with the outputs in excess of half the state variables, some design parameters remain unaffected by the assignment of both sets of eigenvalues and eigenvectors. A certain part of these additional parameters can be adjusted to alleviate the impact of misalignment between the system and the observer initial states. The remaining part contributes to the identification of the observer matrices—other than the dynamical coefficient matrix. The one-to-one correspondence between the observability of the system and the eigenvalue assignability of the observer in the framework of this approach is demonstrated.

摘要:
The problem of robust stability for large-scale systems made of several non-linearly perturbed subsystems is considered. A stabilizing local state feedback is applied to each subsystem and the bound of permissible perturbations in each subsystem is obtained. The derived results are also applicable to the case when the perturbation in each subsystem is non-linear and time-varying. Finally, the relation between the perturbation and the local control law is established.

摘要:
A design criterion is developed to achieve the robust stabilization of a feedback system with time-varying non-linear uncertainties. Moreover, an effective design algorithm is derived to achieve the robust optimization of a feedback system subjected to time-varying non-linear uncertainties. The theory of minimumH∞-norm and the optimal interpolation technique are employed to solve this robust optimization problem. Since the requirements of internal stability are satisfied, this design algorithm performs appropriately, even if the plant is unstable and/or is non-minimum phase. From the result of the robust optimization, we can predict the maximum sector bound of non-linear uncertainties that can be tolerated in the feedback system.

摘要:
A long division method based on a matrix euclidean algorithm and a continued fraction method based on a matrix Routh algorithm are developed. These are used for constructing a similarity transformation matrix which would transform an observer (controller) block companion form to a controller (observer) block companion form, and for converting a reducible or an irreducible left (right) matrix fraction description to an irreducible right (left) matrix fraction description. The relationships between the state-space models and the corresponding rational matrices of a class of multivariable systems are also explored. The new procedures enable us to enhance the computational aspects of designing self-tuning controllers for on-line adaptive control of a class of multivariable systems.
