摘要:
Two models have been developed to derive the optimal room mix for a hotel. The first is a linear programming (L.P.) model, which assumes average utilization factors for the various room types and which finds the room mix for maximum yearly profit under a set of constraints. The second model utilizes an existing model developed by the author for finding the optimal rental policies over time for a hotel having a given room mix, and which provided as a by product the expected contribution to profit per day of activity of the hotel if optimal rental policies wore followed. Thus, by evaluating the expected profit contribution per day for different room type combinations, it is possible to derive a room mix which maximizes the annual rate of return on the investment and which is not distorted by false assumptions as in the ease of the L.P. model. A search procedure has been outlined and it has been suggested that the calculations could be reduced significantly if the search would be limited to a range around the initial L.P. solution

摘要:
The results presented in this paper indicate that the time-optimal control of a multi-variable, time-invariant linear system with inaccessible state variables is made possible by the introduction of a continuous-time observer system. The basic system and the observer system were simulated on a parallel-logic analogue computer for a third-order system and the associated three-dimensional switch surface for the time-optimal control sequence was simulated on a small digital computer: the communications between the analogue and the digital computers were accomplished by a simple interface system

摘要:
A two-unit warm standby redundant system with switch failure, exponential failure-time and general repair time distribution is considered. Howard's reward structure has been superimposed on the semi-Markov process generated by the system to obtain expected profit that the system earns in steady state. Effect of switch behaviour on expected profit has also been studied. Several particular cases are included

摘要:
Using the variation of certain parameters in the direction of the gradient, a sensitivity analysis is performed here in respect of a linearized method of simplex-type computation for problems of geometric programming, which minimize a polynomial with polynomial constraints. The illustrative applications show the relative flexibility and efficiency of the computational method which has considerable scope of application in dynamic problems of intertemporal optimization

摘要:
The problem of identifiability, i.e. of the uniqueness of the solution of the identification problem, is a difficult and awkward one. This paper deals with a case of a non-stationary linear system. A very general local uniqueness condition is given, which becomes an identifiability criterion, in particular when the state vector is completely observable, but also for other subsets of linear systems. A particular example is given

摘要:
A unified approach to input-output decoupling of linear multivariate control systems described by dynamic operator equations is presented. The motivation of the approach is to include as special cases all linear decoupling results presently known and to cover some new cases not previously studied. The generality of the results is due to three facts: first to the inclusion of a direct input-output effect in the system model, secondly to the utilization of operator theory concepts and thirdly to the treatment of the case where the decoupling matrix operator B* is singular by means of dynamic compensation. Several examples illustrate the generality of the present theory and give some now situations whore input-output decoupling is of importance

摘要:
It. is shown that the iterative procedure proposed by Krasovskii for solving the continuous time-optimal control problem possesses an excellent rate of convergence. Furthermore, a new iterative procedure for solving the subproblems that arise from Krasovskii's technique is presented, together with its convergence proof. An illustrative example is given

摘要:
A generalized operational two-variable calculus is proposed which uses algebraic properties of differential polynomials only and deals with partial differential equations with space- and time-dependent coefficients. The main result is an extension of the decomposition formula of Heaviside which provides a new approach to non-stationary distributed parameter systems. Two applications are given: a general method for solving linear partial differential equations with space-dependent coefficients; and an approach to the synthesis of non-stationary distributed parameter systems which may be considered as an extension of the Guillemin and Truxal's method for lumped parameter systems. The block-diagram of the compensating network so obtained is given and its feasibility is pointed out

摘要:
An interactive approach is proposed for the optimization of deterministic systems with multiple criteria. This approach does not require an explicit knowledge of the decision maker's utility function, but it is assumed that the decision maker can provide local information about this function at each interation The use of this interactive approach is then illustrated by applying it to the satellite attitude control problem and results are presented

摘要:
This paper analyses three types of recruitment policies followed by a number of organizations. The constant threshold policy employs a fixed (over time) criterion for selecting among applicants, whereas the time-varying acceptance policy permits small adaptations in acceptance standards over time to reflect changes in the inflow of applications. Finally, ranking policies in which all applications are saved till the end of the decision period and then processed, are examined. While the latter typo of policy is clearly optimal if no attrition occurs, i.e. if no applications are withdrawn because of unnecessary delays in processing, it is shown that this type of policy becomes sub-optimal if a small amount of attrition starts to occur
