Given the locations of the Central Processing Unit (ar;the terminals which have to communicate with it, to determine the number and locations of the concentrators and to assign the terminals to the concentrators in such a way that the total cost is minimized. There is alao a fixed cost associated with each concentrator. There is ail upper limit to the number of terminals which can be connected to a concentrator. Availability and other related parameters, such as failure frequency, mean down Lima, otc, aro important reliability parameters to be considered at the design stage of a system; and this needs appropriate mathematical models for their assessment. This paper presents algorithms to assess quantitatively the above parameters of a repairable m-ordor system comprising units with unequal failuro and repair rates. The concepts of minimal cut sets and minimal tie sets have been employed. The modols developed here can be applied to series and parallol systems as well.

In this paper the nilpotency properties of deadbeat linear multivariable discrete-time disturbance-rejection systems incorporating full-order or reduced-order observers for plants with accessible or inaccessible statea are investigated. The theory is illustrated by the presentation of the results of computer simulation studies which indicate that the presence of an observer affects only the transient behaviour of deadbeat discrete-time disturbance-rejection systems and that the use of a reduced-order observer results in markedly superior transient behaviour than the use of a full-order observer.

摘要:

The paper presents a procedure for the construction of a minimal dimension stato-spaeo representation for macroeconomic policy model. By using the results obtained here, the present paper clarifies the relationships among the minimal realization of the model, the basic concepts of controllability and observability, and dynamic policy existence. Thus, the paper shows a dynamic generalization of Tinbergen's theory of policy formation.

We present a general approach for solving minimax and non-linear programming problems through a sequence of least pth approximations with extrapolation. Several numerical examples illustrate the effectiveness of the present approach. A comparison with the woll-known SUMT method of Fiaeco and McCormick is made under the same conditions and employing Fletcher's quasi.Newton programme.

The problem of gamma-ray imaging encountered in nuclear medicine diagnosis is considered and solved by using distributed-parameter filtering theory. The nature of the photon emission and counting processes call for a generalization and application of some recent results concerning the filtering of stochastic processes that modulate the rate (intensity) of doubly stochastic Poissonian counting processes. From a theoretic point of view the results of the paper actually fill in formally an existing gap between lumped and di3tributed-parameter filtering theory. Three illustrative examples are worked out to highlight many of the ideas developed.

This paper describes the procedure for determination of the non-linearity present in the pulmonary arterial circulation process. A method of investigation of the non-linearity by applying control theory is first described. The basic linear model of the circulation process is then discussed and the parameters of the linear model are estimated. The basic model is non-linearized by considering the presence of an additional actuating signal to the model to account for the effective non-linearity of the circulation process. The characteristic of the non-linearizing signal is then determined by examining the resemblance between the model response and the actually observed pressure contour characteristics. The system non-linearity with respect to the determined characteristic of the non-linearizing signal is discussed.

This paper establishes the relations between the changes in tho values of the Lagrange multipliers and the changes in the values of tho constraint and objoetivo functions for a non-linear, convex programme based on the classical Lagrangian. Using somo Lagrange multipliers which are larger (smaller) than the optimal ones, it is possible that a point minimizing the Lagrangian is inside the feasible (infeasible) region. Illus-strativo examples are presented for quadratic programming problems.

This paper establishes the relations between the changes in the values of the augmented multipliers and the changes in the values of the constraint and objective functions for a non-linear, non-convex programme based on the augmented Lagrangian which was introduced by one of the present authors. If the penalty parameters are sufficiently large, the monotonic relations hold between the augmented multipliers and the constraint functions near the optimal solution. Illustrative examples show that the classical Lagrangian fails to give rise to the relations for a. non-convex programme.

The problem of finding frequency-domain conditions which guarantee asymptotic stability with probability 1 of linear systems with a time-varying feedback controller and having white noise parameter variations is considered. It is shown that the stochastic version of the second method of Liapunov can be employed for deriving sufficient conditions for stability of such systems. Stability criteria are derived after taking into account restrictions on the gain as well as on the rate of change of the gain of the controller.
