摘要:
In most physical systems the dynamical behaviour is best described using differential equations and physical considerations often suggest that a discrete observation model is appropriate. This paper gives a numerical method for the recursive estimation of the parameters of a linear time-invariant differential equation model from discrete observations. The numerical method in an alternate formulation gives a simple way of solving the differential equation.

摘要:
In this paper we prove the convergence of least squares identification algorithms when applied to unstable signal models. The proof is in terms of the properties of infinite sequences of matrices and of their norms to show that the convergence of least squares identification algorithms applies to unstable deterministic and stochatics processes.

摘要:
The identifiability of a linear deterministic differential system in a state space representation is examined. Conditions are given under which the model and the experimentation make it possible to assign unique values to the unknown parameters of the system. In addition to some general results a more thorough analysis is carried out for a class of linear systems called compartmental systems or pool systems, which are widely applied, e.g., in bioscienccs. The analysis must in almost all cases be carried out separately for each model because conditions for parameter uniqueness in the general case could not be derived.

Critical stability configurations are studied within the framework of a recently proposed model of a conserved nutrient ecosystem. It is shown that an analysis of a critical ecosystem underlying the equations of the model allows one to obtain a complete qualitative picture of the location and stability properties of the steady states of the full system without the need for approximations.

摘要:
Two methods for the optimal control of a Ward Leonard system with quadratic performance index are discussed in this paper. Both the approaches enable the problem to be solved for specified final states and free terminal time. It is seen that the numerical algorithms are straightforward and result in a stable and smooth control trajectory. A numerical example illustrates the close similarity of the results obtained and the improvements in the overall performance that can be expected.

This paper presents a theory of measurement of technological change based on the author's earlier research in this area. In essence the proposed theory permits assessment of technological change without recourse to any extraneous variables. The framework developed herein provides an alternative to the conception of technical change in the form of production function and has also important practical implications for systems analysis and allocation of resources across different technologies.

摘要:
The paper considers the problem of the optimal on-line estimation of digital stochastic sequences. Specifically a calculus of variations approach is used to prove that for stationary stochastic sequences exponential and moving average algorithms are equally viable, both techniques representing close approximations to the theoretical optimum solution. For non-stationary sequences the moving average algorithm is shown to be the better choice, due to its symmetrical weighting function. The paper concludes with a discussion of the influence of induced correlation on the estimation process.

摘要:
In this paper we consider sampled-data systems derived from continuous, time-invariant systems whose inputs are piecewise constant. The problem dealt with is that of finding necessary and sufficient conditions for observability of the sampled-data system, given that the continuous-time system is observable. By comparison With some previously obtained results pertaining to the preservation of controllability under sampling, it is shown that the latter requires a stronger condition than that required for the preservation of observability.
