摘要:
The approximation technique called multi state Monte Carlo optimization (MSMCO) is employed here to estimate the solution to a six hundred point travelling salesman problem of finding the shortest route to connect the points in a closed loop. The six hundred points chosen for this solution attempt are a composite of several well known 100-point problems (with proven exact optimals) taken from the literature. This affords some comparison of the performance of the MSMCO approach with other techniques as many algorithms have been tried in producing the true optimals to the separate 100-point subproblems. An effort to show the versatility of the MSMCO technique is made by also attempting to solve a non-linear system with 60 variables and 15 equations. Real valued variables are used in the problem although integer, complex or mixed variable values could be used as the application required.

The non-renewal departure processes from a finite capacityG/M/1queueing system (with a non-renewal input, generally distributed interarrival time, a single server, first come first served queueing discipline, and a markovian server) and an M/G/1/K queueing system (with a Poisson input, generally distributed service times, a single server, and first come first served queueing discipline) are approximated by compatible renewal processes, in steady state. Furthermore, numerical results arc provided, and the approximation outcomes are compared against those from a simulation study.

摘要:
This paper deals with an age-structured epidemic model with a non-separable transmission coefficient. We deal with a model where the population is divided into classes containing susceptible, infected and immune individuals suitable for most common childhood diseases. We show how the same threshold and stability results can be obtained as for the case when the transmission coefficient is separable. There is a threshold condition which can be expressed in terms of the spectral radius of a certain operator. The existence and stability of the possible equilibria are examined in terms of this threshold condition. The results are extended to take into account the effect of a latent period and the fact that new-born individuals are protected by maternal antibodies.

摘要:
An approach is presented to formulating the optimization problem of linear discrete-time systems in the presence of both waveform-type and noise-type disturbances. In addition, the plant output measurements are allowed to be corrupted by additive noise. It is shown that the optimal control, which minimizes the specified performance index and ensures that all closed-loop poles lie inside a circular region within a unit circle, can utilize the energy stored in waveform-type disturbance. An illustrative example is provided and simulation results are included to demonstrate the effectiveness of the presented approach.

Multi-rate control design of two-time-scale systems is considered via digital redesign method. After the multi-rate control design procedures via singular perturbation theory is reviewed and the relationships between slow and fast subproblems are clarified, the design method via the bi-linear transformation method is investigated. Furthermore, in order to verify the validity of this method, an application to the longitudinal control problem of an aircraft is given.

摘要:
Control of batch digesters for magnesium bisulphite pulp cooking is considered. The aim of the study is to obtain a systematic, as well as a systemic problem definition for the subsequent design of higher-level control algorithms. The method of analysis was taken from general systems theory; the general scheme of the systems approach has been adapted to the specific control design problem. Following this approach, first, the behaviour of the basic control algorithms was explored by computer simulation. Based on these preliminary results, a systemic representation of the overall control problem was obtained by defining the pulp cooking process and the basic control algorithms together as a system with three inputs and three outputs. Further, the input-output relations of the system were examined by simulation. The final results are given in the form of three diagrams representing the static responses of the object system to the step changes of a single input. The significance of these characteristics is discussed in terms of information needed for the next step of control design. In addition, the diagrams contain some strategic operational hints for better process management on the lower control level.

摘要:
The detectability by conventional step-hypothesized generalized-likelihood-ratio (SHGLR) method for detection of a parameter change (fault detection) in a linear discrete dynamic system is analysed and it is shown that a weakly-diagnosable-space (WDS) exists for dynamics and sensor faults. Based on the fault detectability, a reduced order SHGLR method is then developed which highly improves the detection rate and speed. In the same framework of the GLR method, another reduced order detection scheme is given, which makes the most use of the information about the input and the state of the system to raise the detectability for faults for the case where the step hypothesis cannot be applied effectively.

摘要:
The choice of smoothing structure for practical implementation of a sliding mode control scheme is considered. Previous results considering the effect upon nominal system performance are reviewed. The effect of the smoothed control on an uncertain system is considered. A simple method of analysing and prescribing the smoothing parameter to ensure robust stability of the sliding mode is presented and illustrated using a numerical example.

It is shown that an on-line estimate of the unknown delay using the Padé approximation can be improved substantially. Based on an initial on-line estimate, a sequence of the estimates of delay is then constructed, which converges to the true delay.

Diamond and simplex models are useful in dealing with systems under parameter perturbations. A diamond (simplex) stability region 𝒟 is an open set in the complex plane with the property that if the zeros of all vertex polynomials of any diamond (simplex) family are all in 𝒟, then the zeros of all the polynomials of this family are all in 𝒟. It is shown that some typical stability regions used in control systems design are diamond (simplex) stability regions. Some discussions and extensions are also presented.
