摘要:
This paper discusses optimum policies for a computer system inspected at random times and subject to two types of failures (hidden failures and system failures). Two models are considered. In model I, a hidden failure is detected by the next inspection, and a system failure is immediately known upon its failure. The system continues to operate with a hidden failure until this is detected by the next inspection, or until the system fails. In model II, both types of failure are detected on the next inspection.

摘要:
This study illustrates the problem of efficiency measurement in stochastic input-output systems when market price data are unavailable. Efficiency comparisons by non-parametric methods are attempted for selected public elementary schools in California for 1976-77 and 1977-78. A suitable linear programming model is developed for the efficiency frontier in the input-output space, which is found to be significantly different from an average relation. This is shown to have important policy implications for improving input performance for better efficiency.

A single-productMfacilities in-series production-planning model is analysed in which known demands on the last facility must be satisfied. The model considers concave production costs and piecewise concave inventory costs in the introduction of production capacity constraints. Backlogging of unsatisfied demand is permitted. The structure of optimal production schedules is exploited and then used to develop an efficient shortest-path algorithm for the systems with parallel production (inventory) cost functions. 摘要:
A closed repair system which has a purchasing stage in addition to operation and repair stages in the classic machine repair system is considered. The purchasing stage is added for the case of an unrepairable failed machine. Based on the fact that this system can be designed as a closed network of three Markovian queues, an analytical procedure is proposed to assist in providing spare machines and repairman. A numerical example is given.

摘要:
In this paper, the Taylor series approximation approach is introduced in the analysis of bilinear systems. Despite the obnoxious properties of bilinear time-variant systems, the Taylor series approach may suitably solve it through the simple formation of the operational matrix of integration. The operation of a set of algebraic equations is greatly simplified just by taking a small number of terms. The result is in satisfactory agreement with the exact solution. An illustrative example is shown to support this method.

The paper considers the deterministic identifiability of interconnected complex systems composed of linear zero-memory elements. Algebraic identifiability criteria are first derived for cascade systems and then for general systems with individual system components linked via an interconnection matrix. It is shown that the identifiability of composite systems depends strongly on the structure of the system under consideration as well as on the inherent system parameters. Several illustrative examples are included.

摘要:
A new adaptive algorithm for system identification and adaptive signal processing has been proposed in this paper. The algorithm can be viewed as a combination of the output-error type and the equation-error type of identifier (that is, a combination of the IIR adaptive filter and the FIR adaptive filter in signal-processing applications). It has been shown both mathematically and by computer simulation that the proposed algorithm can guarantee the globally asymptotical stability. The transient behaviour of the algorithm is better than the conventional output-error type of identifier, especially in the case where the system (signal model) has its eigenvalues on the unit circle. Under certain conditions on the system model (signal model), no moving average (MA) smoothing of the generalized error is needed for the strictly positive realness (SPR) conditions.

摘要:
This paper presents a recursive algorithm using orthogonal Laguerre polynomials to identify the parameters of a system described by a linear differential equation with coefficients of finite-order polynomials in timet. The original time-varying differential input-output model is converted to a set of linear algebraic equations which are solved recursively using Greville's algorithm to give unknown parameters and initial conditions. Numerical results are given to illustrate the algorithm.

摘要:
Fault diagnosis is a vital aspect in the design of operational control systems for large-scale systems with stringent requirements on safety and reliability. In this paper, we develop graph representations for the failure propagation in large-scale systems. Using this model, we present efficient algorithms for failure source identification for single and multiple faults, for diagnosis of faulty alarms, and for forewarning and fault simulation. All these algorithms are analysed for their worst-case complexities. The treatment is algorithmic and graph theoretic and no reference is made to the underlying physical systems.
