摘要:
In this paper we consider various methods for estimating the parameters characterizing process noise in a discrete time dynamical system. The comparison is based on the following factors—storage requirements, numerical computation and statistical efficiency of the estimates. Simulation results are given for a simple model.

摘要:
Identification of dynamical systems is, in essence, a problem of observability of system parameters from a related Bet of observations. In this article, a necessary and sufficient condition is obtained for the observability of parameters from a given record of inputs and states of a linear system with a class of parameter variations. Also obtained is n necessary and sufficient condition of observability of a Sub-class of such systems with polynomial system and constant output coefficient matrices when only the outputs instead of the states are accessible for measurement.

摘要:
In this paper, conditions for the stabilizability by linear state feedback of a class of linear discrete-time dynamical systems with retarded control are established using tho method of D-partition : in addition, conditions for the existence of prescribed stability margins in such systems are established. Typical transient response characteristics which illustrate these stabilizability conditions are presented.

摘要:
This paper discusses the basic concepts of models and modelling. The difference in information contents between a model and the real or imagined situation it is intended to represent is pointed out, and the fact that a model should not be divorced from its intended purpose is strongly emphasized. The act of modelling is defined and discussed. It is concluded that even though formalized approaches to modelling (such as the systems approach) exists ; modelling, as well as the use of models, remains very much an art rather than a science.

摘要:
The inversion of (sI – A), for A in standard form, is important to the study of elementary linear system analysis. An algorithm is developed which directly computes (sI – A)−1and the fundamental solution matrix exp (At) in terms of the lumped plant, parameters found inA.

摘要:
The necessary and sufficient conditions for the completion of a class of pursuit— evasion games are given. The state variables of the pursuer are assumed to be defined by a set of linear differential equations and the evader's state variables are given by a vector valued non-linear differential equation. The game is defined to be completed if certain (or all) state variables of the pursuer ; i.e. position, velocity, etc. are equal to the corresponding state variables of the evader. The Krein's L-method is used to determine the existence of the optimal completion time and the optimal player strategies. The general results are specialized to the case in which the evader's state vector is also governed by a set of linear differential equations. A computational technique—steepest descent method has been developed to obtain the numerical solution of the game. Three examples are presented to illustrate the method. The first one deals with a linear, second order, pursuit-evasion game with constant coefficients in which completion occurs when the position component of the player's state vector coincide. A second linear example is selected to illustrate the effectiveness with which the approach developed in this paper can be used to obtain a sub-optimal solution even if the exact solution cannot be achieved. In the last example, a non-linear pursuit–evasion game is considered. Here it is shown that the technique developed may be applied to a certain class of non-linear pursuit–evasion game although the procedures are much more involved.

摘要:
A general approach fur economic systems is combined with a concrete ‘ fixed-target’—model. The consideration of convergence leads—under conditions of a stable solution and two targets—to the result that five numerical restrictions must be recognized when treating the two instruments. Generalizations of the discussed illustrative model are possible.

摘要:
Several algorithms based on the multiplier or augmented penalty function method for minimizing a function subject to equality constraints are surveyed and compared numerically. These methods employ an approximation of the Lagrange multiplier to increase efficiency. A revised method for choosing the multiplier is presented and compared numerically with the other algorithms. One scheme for automatically choosing the penalty constant associated with the algorithms is also presented.
