摘要:
ABSTRACTThe success of instructional design and development (ID) projects is typically evaluated using an evaluation framework, the most popular being Kirkpatrick's (1967) four levels of evaluation. In spite of their widespread use, there does not appear to be an empirical basis for these frameworks. Do the popular evaluation frameworks encompass the major indicators of successful ID projects? Are the success indicators the same for all the various stakeholders involved in ID projects? The purpose of this study was: 1) to establish empirically a set of ID project success indicators, and 2) to determine if stakeholder perspective influences the importance attached to those indicators.Seven ID project success indicators were identified, suggesting that the common evaluation models are incomplete. A two‐way ANOVA revealed no significant differences among the stakeholder groups in terms of the importance they attached to the success indicators overall. However, a significant difference was found among the success indicators in terms of their importance to ID project success. Also, there was a significant interaction between certain stakeholder groups and certain ID project success indicators. Implications of the findings and directions for future research are discusse

摘要:
ABSTRACTPerformance support is close to the center of a host of related fields and specialties, including human performance technology, electronic performance support systems, technical communications, and instructional design. Because of their common interest in performance support, and common external influences such as cognitive psychology and digital technologies, roles and tools within these fields are beginning to converge, resulting in unprecedented overlap. In times of rapid change, related fields have an opportunity to learn from one another, borrowing useful elements and incorporating them into their own practices. The purpose of this paper is to explore the similarities, differences, and emerging trends among some of these fields and to gain insights into how their evolution affects performance support. Across these fields, we find a continuing tension between designed messages and tools allowing users more flexibility and control. The best performance‐support systems include both of these components as well as a strong human support component. We also observe a trend toward greater reliance on users and user communities in defining and controlling support system

摘要:
ABSTRACTThis article examines the connection between training and technological change by looking at the printing industry through the experiences of six companies. The study revealed that these companies hold training to be strategic, not just peripheral. They invest heavily in the retraining of workers, using a multiplicity of strategies, including training by equipment manufacturers, OJT, peer tutoring, teamwork, customized training at vocational colleges, and tuition reimbursement. The study adds an empirical dimension to what is largely a rhetorical literature on the connection between technological change, training, and competitiveness.

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe purpose of this study was to describe computer‐based technologies and distance learning systems currently used in employee training and to determine which technologies will be used in future training processes. The competencies needed by trainers to use the various types of technologies were also examined, including preferred sources of competency development. Barriers trainers face when implementing new technologies were also determined. A questionnaire was developed and used to collect the data from 381 ISPI members. The results indicate that organizations are using a wide range of technologies in training, and that the major types of technologies will not change significantly in the next three years. However, there are several newer, more sophisticated technologies that will be used with greater frequency in the future. The respondents indicated that it was more important for trainers to be able to use or assist trainees in the use of a system than to be able to develop new systems or programs. Vendor training and self‐study methods were identified as the two most common resources for developing competencies in instructional technol

摘要:
ABSTRACTThe overall goal of this study was to determine the status quo of evaluation efforts of instructional designers as part of a systematic instructional system. This descriptive research investigated what organizational and managerial frameworks are required to sustain the evaluate component of systematic instructional design. Specifically, this survey: 1) Identifies and describes current evaluation practices and strategies of instructional designers within corporate and higher educational settings, 2) Describes types and causes of organizational supports and barriers instructional designers encounter as related to conducting instructional evaluation, and 3) Compares and contrasts professional practices and organizational issues by industry.
