摘要:
SUMMARYThe Olympus gastro camera is described. The technique of its use is outlined in detail, including the method of photographing the cardio‐oesophageal opening and fundus. An analysis is made of 186 examinations performed. Brief mention is made of the autofluorescence camera, the ultra‐violet camera and the new‐combination camera/fiber

摘要:
SUMMARYA statistical analysis of the radiological findings in 902 barium meal examinations performed in one year at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, South Australia, is presented. In addition to analysis by age and sex, the findings are compared with those of similar surveys conducted overseas, and the homogeneity of the radiologists performing the examinations is investigated. The outstanding finding is that the commonest condition recorded is hiatus hernia. Comments on the findings are given by a thoracic surgeon, by a radiologist and by a physician.

摘要:
SUMMARYDiminution in isotope in the region of the porta hepatis may be observed in normal patients; a similar appearance can be produced by any space‐occupying lesion in this location, the commonest causes being neoplasm, cyst or infection. A typical branching cold area radiating from the porta hepatis has been described in extrahepatic obstructive jaundice. False negatives and positives may occur; these will be less frequent if the scan is interpreted strictly in terms of its clinical context. Such a scan diagnosis may be supported by study of the rate of excretion of131I‐labelled rose bengal into the intestine. A scan diagnosis made on these premises may justify percutaneous cholangiography or exploratory laparot

摘要:
SUMMARYThe evolution of contrast agents for urography has been briefly reviewed, the passage of the contrast in the plasma and extracellular space has been mentioned, and the nature of excretion in the nephron has been denned. The emphasis in the past on the dose of contrast agent, dehydration, compression and more recently a double dose and rehydration have been discussed. There is no evidence that rehydration has any value within the period of the examination while the double dose produces an osmotic diuresis with urine of maximum concentration. It is suggested that the dose of contrast agent for urography is the one which produces a maximum urinary concentration for the duration of the examination. In most patients this requires sufficient contrast to contain 15 grammes of iodine. More may be needed in very large patients and slightly less in smaller patients. There is no evidence that the larger dose leads to more reactions, while there is a considerable saving in the overall time for the examination and the films used. It can be anticipated that this is a suitable anatomical study for hypertensive patients, but it is unsuitable as a physiological study of differential renal function. However, the advantages of the double dose urogram are a better nephrogram and pyelogram; it may avoid the necessity for abdominal compression, provide a better study in the presence of poor renal function and a close correlation with true renal function. The latter is being currently reviewed. In conclusion, it is suggested that the double dose urogram should be considered “the Adequate Dose Urogram

摘要:
SUMMARYGas formation in the foetus, whether this be intravascular or extravascular, is a valuable radiographic indication of intrauterine foetal death.A case is reported in which gas formation was evident within the foetal vertebral canal in addition to intravascular sites. As no record of this can be found in the literature, it is assumed that this finding has not been previously documented. This sign, therefore, merits recording, since it could, on occasion, provide the only positive radio graphic evidence of foetal death.
