SummaryThe complications of cerebral angiography in a two‐year period where catheter techniques have been preferred to direct puncture have been reviewed. The aetiology of these complications have been discussed, together with methods to reduce such complications to a minimum. SummaryThe several methods available for aortography in dissecting aneurysm are reviewed critically with reference to the diagnostic information provided and to patient safety. The trans‐femoral catheter technique found satisfactory on both of these counts in a majority of 18 personal cases is described in detail. Particular emphasis is laid on why the abdominal portion of the aorta should usually be examined as well as the thoracic and on why accidental catheterization and injection of the dissection sac need not be hazardous in experienced hands. An explanation is given for the occasional necessity in the series to catheterize the aorta from an upper limb artery and a preference is expressed for the left transaxillary route as an alternative to the transfemoral in such circumstance

SummaryColonic examination techniques in Australia and New Zealand over a five‐year period from 1965 to 1969 inclusive have been investigated by study of 146 questionnaire replies from institutions and private radiologists; this survey covers approximately 250,000 barium enemas. Comparison has been made with a recent American survey. Various aspects of preparation, contrast media and technique have been investigated, with particular attention to complications and their causes.Some important points emerging were:a. Thirty‐seven per cent, showed some dissatisfaction with bowel preparation being used.b. There was particularly marked divergence of opinion regarding the place of air contrast examinations.c. Fifty per cent, of radiologists are still using conventional fluoroscopic screens.d. Some potentially dangerous practices, particularly with the use of balloon catheters, are still commonplace.e. Serious complications occurred at a rate of about one in 8,000 barium enemas and deaths attributable to the enema at a rate of one in 80,000; we considered that six out of 29 serious complications and two out of the three deaths were probabl

SummaryThe radiological signs of gall‐bladder adenomyomatosis are reviewed.Six surgical cases and three further illustrative cases are described. Diagnosis was established on clinical and radiological grounds, but microscopic correlation could not be obtained in the majority of patients.Microscopic diagnosis is difficult because most gall‐bladder specimens are opened before being sent for histology. The localized area of disease is therefore not easily identified and unlikely to be sectioned.Radiography offers an image of the entire functioning gall‐bladder wall in various states of distension.
