摘要:
SummaryThe methods of teaching undergraduate radiological anatomy in the University of Melbourne are discussed in detail, including some of the problems associated with the current programme. Radiological anatomy must be kept in its correct perspective of teaching gross anatomy as portrayed in a radiograph, and if the fundamental principles are understood the students have a sound basis upon which pathological radiology can be taught during their clinical instructions.

摘要:
SummaryThe indications for cardiac catheterization are discussed. Currently available techniques of right and left heart catheterization are described, and the particular advantages and disadvantages of each technique are summarized. Complications of cardiac catheterization are discussed both in general and in relation to each individual procezure. The most commonly used methods of measuring cardiac output and Of detecting the presence and magnitude of intracardiac shunts are outlined.

摘要:
SummaryThe haemodynamic parameters used in detecting and assessing each of several common cardio‐vascular abnormalities are presented, and the pertinent catheterization techniques are described. Methods for studying patients with the more common congenital cardiac malformations are for the most part well standardized, and when adequate data are obtained, these are usually easily interpreted. Acquired valvular lesions, especially stenotic ones, can also be evaluated by standard techniques and the severity of such lesions accurately determined. In contrast, methods for studying myocardial function are less satisfactory. The parameters usually employed in assessing myocardial performance are also influenced by extra‐myocardial factors, and some of the more meaningful methods of studying myocardial contractility are still too complex and time‐consuming for routine use. Except for selective angiocardiography, cardiac catheterization techniques are likewise of only limited help in evaluating patients with ischaemic heart di

摘要:
SummaryA man of 37 who swallowed two mouthfuls of Paraquat developed pulmonary fibrosis within 18 months in a previously normal chest. It is suggested that the fibrosis was induced by Paraquat.

摘要:
SummaryThe hypothesis that ureter dilatation is related to pre‐eclamptic toxaemia is considered false.A significant proportion of hypertensive women had a previous history of pre‐eclampsia. Comparison with an age‐matched group of controls showed a highly significant statistical difference in the occurrence of hypertension, “kidney trouble” and “swellings”.A urographic survey of patients diagnosed as pre‐eclamptic showed that 5.8% had evidence of differential renal function, and 21–5% showed other abnormality in the urinary tract. If early diagnosis of hypertension is to be made, a survey of the renal tract is recommended in patients who show lability of blood pressure when under the physiological stress of pregnancy, In addition, such patients should be followed‐up at regular intervals for the early institution of measures known to prevent premature hypertensive vascular and cardiovas

摘要:
SummaryThe urinary excretion in sheep of the dime and trimer of iothalamate has been compare with methylglucamine iothalamate. The new agents produce less urinary solute output, less diuresis, and higher urinary contrast concertrations. The sodium form produces higher urinary contrast concentration than the methy glucamine form.It is anticipated that the use of contras media with six and nine iodine atoms per molecule will produce a considerable advance in urography.

摘要:
SummaryThe involvement by rheumatoid disease of bursae and tendon sheaths at the ankle and in the foot has been described from the clinical, radiological and pathological aspects. Over a period of time involvement of most of the tendon sheaths in the region was demonstrated by positive contrast tenosynogaphy. A rheumatoid tenosynovitis was commonly found to be responsible for local symptoms, but complications were of less importance than in the hand. Rheumatoid bursitis was of clinical importance in the foot. Accurate recognition of these lesions is a prerequisite in management.
