SUMMARY1Squamous carcinoma of the skin may spread along cranial nerves and their branches for considerable distances in either direction, and may even reach the brain. There is good evidence that perineural lymphatics do not exist.2A knowledge of the anatomy of the cranial nerves and cranial foramina is important.3The diagnostic radiologist has the potential to help his clinical colleagues with special views of the foramina, tomography and the CT scan.4When a patient with a skin cancer, or a past history of a skin cancer, develops symptoms indicating an abnormality in one or more cranial nerves or their branches, then the clinician must be aware of the possibility of this diagnosis. Recurrence of squamous carcinoma or the finding of a subcutaneous plaque of squamous carcinoma may be associated with perineural spread.5Treatment is difficult and the results of treatment are poor. Best results are likely to be achieved before the condition is advanced.6Surgeon and radiotherapist should realise the need both for close cooperation and the radical use of each treatment modality. Post operative radiotherapy is mandatory before recurrence occurs.

SUMMARYIn summary, real‐time ultrasound is now established. Clinicians will use it as an adjunct to physical examination and it is up to the various professional bodies to see that their trainees learn both its usefulness and its limitations. Imaging specialists will chiefly use real‐time ultrasound as an adjunct to static B‐mode scanning, moulding the method to the problem involved and remembering that they are expected to produce the best possible answer from the best possible pictures. SUMMARYAn unusual case of truncus arteriosus communis with possible absence of the right pulmonary artery surviving to the age of 19 years without surgery is described. Long survival is unusual. There are difficulties in proving the absence of a pulmonary artery radiologically.

SUMMARYA survey of the place of birth of 200 patients with duodenal ulcer diagnosed by barium meal examination at the Darwin Hospital showed that duodenal ulcer was six times more common in patients born in the United Kingdom and seventeen times more common in patients born in other European countries than in patients born in Australia. However, this much higher incidence in migrants appears to be related to factors other than migration.The survey also shows that relatively acute ulcers are more common in patients born in Australia and relatively chronic ulcers are more common in migrants from the United Kingdom and other Eurpean countries.

SUMMARYA simple method of oral cholecysto‐cholangiography is described, the features of which are:1Fractionated administration of 4.5 gms of Sodium Iopodate at 12 hours and 6 gms of Calcium Iopodate 1 hour prior to examination.2Pharmacologic assistance (10 mg Metoclopramide orally taken at the same time as Solu‐Biloptin) to promote gastric emptying and facilitate intestinal absorption of contrast.3Liberal use of tomography.In a series of 50 consecutive cases without pre‐selection, demonstration of duct system by hepatic excretion is achieved in 76%. This included 9 out of 11 cases (82%) of opacified gall bladder with stones which furnished definitive information on the biliary system with a single examination. Of more importance is the visualization of ducts in all 6 cases (100%) of non opacified gall bladders, converting an otherwise “failed” examination into a useful diagnostic study. This has obviated the use of repeat dose of oral contrast or intravenous cholangiography which would result in additional cost and inconvenience to the patient and department.This technique is a simple, safe and complete study of the biliary tract and can be recommended as a routine ex

SUMMARYA case of insulinoma is reported in which the correct localization of tumor was made with PTP and immunoreactive insulin values from the portal venous system and in which pancreas angiography indicated a false positive tumor localization. PTP should be done to every patient to confirm the preoperative location of the insulinoma(s).
