SUMMARYThe presence of translucent areas in the radiographs of skull of aboriginal patients is reported. The areas were not found in children and young adults but increased in frequency with increasing age. They appear to be produced by prominent depressions or pits due to arachnoid granulations. The reason for this prominence in aboriginal patients is not known but is presumed to be related to larger granulations and the thickness of the skulls of aboriginal people.Their clinical significance is the resemblance of the radiological changes in the skull of those of myelomatosis.

SUMMARYA case is reported of a scuba diver who suffered pulmonary barotrauma and systemic air embolism after his first deepwater dive. He was found to have both present and past evidence of unilateral emphysema of his right lung. The mechanisms involved in the pathogenesis of pulmonary barotrauma in air‐trapping lesions of the lungs are discussed.A second case is presented of an intending diver referred for routine chest radiography. Radiographs taken in expiration revealed a bulla in the right upper lobe, as a result of which he was advised against using compressed air for diving.It is recommended that all intending scuba divers should have chest radiographs taken in inspiration and in expiration as part of their clinical evaluatio

SUMMARYA case of subcutaneous emphysema which developed after treatment for Hodgkin's disease with cytotoxic drugs is described. This would appear to be the first such case described. The aetiology of the condition is reviewed.

SUMMARYA radiograph of the chest showing a well defined, oval opacity or lucency extending from the retrocardiac space to occupy most of the right lower lung field should thus strongly suggest the presence of a large hiatus hernia. Upper gastrointestinal series is essential, not only to demonstrate the exact position of the stomach, but also to assess any structural changes in the oesophagus due to reflux as well as assessing any gastric outlet obstruction due to volvulus or an associated hyper‐trophic pyloric stenosis. The size of the hernia should not distract the radiologist from searching for these other important structural abnormalities of the oesophagus and stomach.ABSTRACTFour children with large hiatus hernias are reported and their clinical and radiological findings are described. In three of the cases a radiograph of the chest showed the stomach occupying most of the lower part of the thoracic cavity on the right and in the fourth case the stomach was largely retrocardiac in position. All four cases presented with vomiting. Two of the cases had an associated hypertrophic pyloric stenosis at the time of presentation and one of the cases presented with gastric outlet obstruction due to gastric volvulus. The prognosis appears to depend on structural oesophageal changes due to reflux rather than the size of the hernia. ABSTRACTA cystadenoma of the lesser sac, arising in aberrant pancreatic tissue in a young black female is described. The radiological and pathological features of pancreatic heteropia and cystadenomas are discussed.
