摘要:
SummaryThe head and neek encompass a tremendous spectrum of tissues in a compact space with almost every organ system represented, including the digestive and respiratory tracts, as well as the nervous, osseous, and vascular systems. Because of its anatomic complexity, this area tends to he approached with considerable trepidation. The high resolution of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and its outstanding definition of tissue contrast allow for an exquisite display of normal and pathologic anatomy. However, imaging of the head and neck, due to this intrieate anatomy and the varied orientation of structures, demands much more attention to detail than do other areas of the body. This is underscored by the multitude of MRI sequences that can be employed. In this article I will review the application of various MRI techniques in the evaluation of the head and neck.

摘要:
SummaryMagnetic resonance (MR) imaging plays an important role in evaluation of ocular and orbital lesions. Ocular tumors can be distinguished and delineated from adjacent fluid collections. Demonstration of internal septa within a well-defined mass leads to the diagnosis of cavernous hemangioma, whereas vascularity and internal lobulations are the hallmark of capillary hemangiomas. MR is the procedure of choice for evaluation of the optic nerve sheath complex. It precisely delineates and characterizes optic neuritis, optic gliomas, and pcrioptic meningiomas.

摘要:
SummaryMagnetic resonance (MR) imaging has made it possible to evaluate the skull base in one primary screening examination. In most cases, MR imaging also serves as the definitive imaging study. In some traumatic or congenital lesions or both, computed tomography (CT) and conventional radiographs may be preferred or may be needed to supplement the MR imaging examination. This article discusses the pathology of the skull base, particularly in the evaluation of suspected neoplasms. Optimal imaging of the skull base requires a minimum of two planes of section, typically with and without gadolinium contrast enhancement.
