A study of the distribution ofLegionellain a newly constructed water treatment facility foundLegionella pneumophila(serogroup 1) in both hot‐ and cold‐water lines. The contamination was monitored by bacterial enumeration of samples collected from various sites in the building and from disassembled plumbing fixtures. Repeated flushing and hyperchlorination were inadequate as decontamination procedures, presumably because the organism had colonized interior spaces of valves and associated parts that are inaccessible to chlorine and unaffected by flushing.

Pilot‐plant tests resulted in virtually 100 percent removals ofGiardia lambliacysts for both coarse and fine grades of diatomaceous earth over a wide range of conditions. Removals of turbidity and total coliform bacteria were functionally dependent on the grade of diatomaceous earth. Alum coating increased removal rates.

The Supreme Court of Utah ruled that the invasion of land next to a condominium development by discharge of surface waters from the development was intentional because the results could have been anticipated.
