摘要:
Although most of the country is very much aware of the spiraling costs of inflation, projected salary figures for the year 2000 will, nevertheless, be met with mild disbelief by many. Moreover, payment will be for less service rendered–as work weeks shorten and vacation allotments stretch. The author details what management should expect.

摘要:
Frequent laxity of standards and slipshod practices by some water utilities have been revealed by the Community Water Supply Study. The author calls for better methods of quality surveillance and greater responsibility on the part of utilities.

Much work remains to be done regarding the determination of viral and bacterial disinfection of waters and the effects of “agent X” before direct consumptive reuse of wastewaters can be sanctioned.

摘要:
There are advantages to be gained by installing water‐distribution pipes in tunnels shared by other utilities. There are also disadvantages and as yet unforeseen circumstances that may mitigate against their use. The author summarizes what is presently known about the ramifications of the technique.

摘要:
The hepatitis virus rarely, if ever, has been discerned in a water supply of a community that has evidenced an attack. Using sleuthing techniques, an almost airtight case, based on circumstantial evidence, has been constructed showing that the outbreak of infectious hepatitis among members of the Holy Cross football squad was due to water in a service line polluted as the result of a cross connection.

摘要:
All of the mathematical expressions derived for filter head loss as the filter progressively clogs are based on the Kozeny–Carman equation. Each experimenter, however, has adapted the equation to fit the results of his particular experiments. The authors review the suppositions and the applicability of the variants of the K–C equation.

摘要:
The standard Hardy–Cross method for computing the flow conditions in a network breaks down when booster pumps are added. The authors describe a procedure for modifying the original method, making it practical for almost any utility to establish the effects of changing use patterns within the system.

摘要:
The authors prepared an initial report covering their work for the 90th Annual Conference (see JOURNAL, Oct. 1970). Since then, they have had the opportunity to scrutinize the use of such treatment in several communities and have arrived at several additional conclusions.

摘要:
Methods, of course, now exist for determining the scaling state of a water. However, as the author points out, they are too specific. Here is a report about the use of relative titration values—values that can be used to determine the behavior of mixed waters based on the titration values of the waters that are to be mixed.
