摘要:
This article discusses the acute need for training in the water industry, what AWWA offers in the form of training and education, and the huge gap between what is necessary and what is being done. The article briefly reviews the history of training within AWWA and the water industry, discusses programs currently offered, suggests methods for improving the quality and quantity of training, and stresses the benefits of well‐trained personnel.

摘要:
This joint discussion on the manager's role in employee training was presented at the 1966 AWWA Annual Conference in Bal Harbor, Florida. Paul Weir of the Atlanta (Georgia) Water Works discussed the manager's role in employee training in large utilities. Donovan W. Jones of Dresser&McKee in Boston, Massachusetts, discusses four points that management must first support both morally and financially before a small utility manager can build a training program.

摘要:
This article discusses design criteria that are essential to a properly functioning water system under conditions that exist in developing countries. Emphasis has been placed upon the necessity for including in design and specification considerations the concept of obtaining a supply or plant that will be maintained and operated after it is installed. From a practical viewpoint, this means having and applying knowledge of the cultural, social, and economic practices of the people for whom the supply is being provided. It also involves making provision for the proper training of those who will operate the plant.

摘要:
Under a program sponsored by the U.S. Agency for International Development (AID), the firm of Camp, Dresser&McKee was selected by the government of East Pakistan to prepare a study of the feasibility of an overall program for providing more water of safe quality and improving general sanitation in East Pakistan. The article first provides an overview of East Pakistan, including physical characteristics, climate, economy, existing water supplies, and then goes on to make recommendations related to developing a water supply program.

摘要:
This joint discussion on elevated storage tank freeze‐ups was presented at the 1965 AWWA North Central Section meeting at Fargo, North Dakota. John R. Branch of the Minnesota Water Company, Inc., St. Paul, Minnesota, reports on a freeze‐up experience, the facilities of the water system involved, the events and conditions preceding the freeze‐up, and the corrective measures taken. George J. Toman, a consulting engineer of Mandan, North Dakota, reviews the concept and precept of water storage tank freeze‐ups and suggests several devices to prevent freezing.

摘要:
The objective of this study was to investigate parameters relating to the use of cationic polyelectrolytes as prime coagulants, and not as aids, in the treatment of natural waters. The experimental approach was divided into two parts. The first part consisted of a series of laboratory jar tests, using eight cationic polyelectrolytes, Potomac River water, and, for comparative purposes, natural water from four other area sources. The laboratory studies, which evaluated the effects of pH, hypochlorination, mixing rate, and color removal, were followed by full‐scale plant studies using a 3,000‐gph water purification unit, Potomac River water, and the most promising polyelectrolyte, as determined by the laboratory study.
