摘要:
The Miami Conservancy Dist. was formed in 1913 after a disastrous flood. Over the years it has grown in size and in objectives. Today it must face the challenges of development as well as of dealing with floods.

摘要:
Hardness, “total dissolved salts,” and alkali factor provide a fairly complete picture of ground‐water quality with respect to major constituents, but many minor constituents need to be measured for the establishment of logical regulations.

摘要:
Nitrates in ground water present a problem. Since they come from many sources—both natural and man‐related—many methods must be used to reduce their entry into drinking‐water supplies. Here some of the most prevalent sources of nitrates are discussed, and ways the water‐resource manager can inhibit the occurrence of nitrates in ground water are presented.

摘要:
Ground‐water recharge became necessary in southern California during the 1950s because ground‐water levels along the coastline had dropped below sea level in many pfaces and sea water was intruding into the ground‐water basins. Various methods of recharge were tried to alleviate the problem. These methods and reasons for using them are presented in this article.

摘要:
As ground waters are increasingly used for water sources, contamination of ground water has become a problem in some areas. Among the contaminants are pesticides, trace elements, and nitrate—nitrogen. These contaminants are now being studied, and ways are being found to prevent or rectify their intrusion.

摘要:
A pilot project in the Salt River bed west of Phoenix, Ariz., has shown that secondary‐sewage effluent can be renovated effectively by ground‐water recharge with high‐rate infiltration basins. Essentially complete removal of BOD, suspended solids, and fecal coliforms was obtained, and nitrogen and phosphate were reduced.

摘要:
Because of the differences in rainfall and water needs in northern and southern Israel, a method of recharging ground water and transporting it from the north to the south was needed. This article details the new system, including Problems encountered and overcome.

摘要:
After having been in orbit for less than one year, the Earth Resources Technology Satellite (ERTS‐1) has shown that it provides applicable data for more effective monitoring and management of surface‐water features over the globe. In addition the Data Collection System (DCS) has proved to be a reliable tool for gathering hydrologic data from remote regions.

摘要:
Public involvement in decisions concerned with water‐resource management is here to stay. But, even though the US has ample water resources for near future needs, growth patterns, local requirements, and special‐interest groups will always need to balance and adjust, because each area has its own problems.
