摘要:
A Pennsylvania appellate court has ruled that a public utility commission (PUC) can order a water company to make needed improvements where service is inadequate even though the water pressure meets regulations.

摘要:
President William H. Richardson discusses the programs of other water associations in relation to AWWA's growing interest in establishing liaisons with other international water supply organizations. Ida M. Sayre, associate editor of JournalAWWA, interviewed Richardson in the offices of his engineering firm, Alvord, Burdick, and Howson, in Chicago on March 12, 1985.

摘要:
The drinking water supply and treatment system in Amsterdam, dating from the mid‐1850s, takes advantage of the new and the old. Supplies are drawn from natural catchment areas in sand dunes, from the Rhine River, and from surface lakes as well as from groundwater. The dune‐water source is recharged with pretreated surface water before it is treated to potable quality for distribution. Industrial water, which is not of drinking water quality, is delivered separately to steel mills, paper mills, and an oil refinery. The pollution of the Rhine River concerns water suppliers in cities, such as Amsterdam, that are located across international boundaries from the sources of pollution. The author gives an overview of the sources of water supply, the treatment processes, and the distribution system that serve the capital city of the Netherlands.

摘要:
An interdisciplinary survey team, composed of specialists in water quality, silviculture, agricultural economy, agricultural engineering, and anthropology, undertook a survey of two differing provinces in Thailand to assess the successes and shortcomings of resettlement programs. The authors describe the interdisciplinary approach and the findings of the survey team regarding water resources and management. Improved local participation in such projects is suggested to increase the likelihood of long‐term success of the relocation programs.

摘要:
The problems associated with aging underground distribution networks in the United Kingdom are being addressed at the national and regional levels. This article details one water authority's use of telemetry to reduce stresses on distribution networks and extend the life of underground assets. It also discusses the 1974 reorganization of water services in Great Britain, the new approach to financing distribution system maintenance, and policies regarding renovation versus replacement of mains.

摘要:
Virtually all rural households in the Netherlands are now supplied with piped and treated drinking water. This feat was largely accomplished over a 40‐year period, beginning in the early 1920s, by a combination of self‐help, sensible but affordable water rates, and partial government subsidies to promote extension of water services by regional utilities to remote areas. The Dutch experience could serve as a model throughout the world in providing safe and reliable water to villages and farms.
