摘要:
The network analysis program, described in this article, is a state‐of‐the‐art tool for the planning and design of water‐distribution systems. Entire systems, regardless of size and complexity, can be modeled; the program will accurately simulate all major features of a contemporary water‐distribution system. The network analysis can be applied either to the entire system or to any part of the system.

摘要:
Utilizing its speed, a properly programmed computer can solve mathematical models and equations with a higher degree of accuracy than noncomputerized methods. These characteristics make the digital computer an effective tool for solving water‐distribution flow problems.

摘要:
Factors are presented that influence the possibility of independent performance of control functions in a water‐filtration plant by a computer, and the necessity for development of mathematical models is stressed. Recommendations are made that include enlisting aid of a control systems engineer and selecting an appropriate computer.

摘要:
When completed, the Prospect water‐treatment plant in Australia will be the principal treatment facility in the supply system controlled by the Sydney Metropolitan Water Sewerage and Drainage Bd. The plant will be constructed to treat a capacity of 840 mgd (3.2 mil m3/day) initially with expansion planned to 1 050 mgd (4.0 mil m3/day).

摘要:
The growing worldwide interest in the development of community water supplies calls for a searching look at the necessity — and possibilities — for internationalizing research efforts in the field. Some practical suggestions are presented for the establishment of working relationships among researchers and research institutions, for identifying research priorities, for selecting problems amenable to international cooperation, and for accelerating the pace of progress of developing the community's supply of water in both the developed and technologically underdeveloped areas.

摘要:
As more advances are introduced into the water‐technology field, other previously isolated factors are becoming increasingly relevant to this area. A case inpoint is the legal concern for quality‐control measures in the laboratories of California.

摘要:
Laboratory studies were performed to discover if improvement of flow conditions in prototype settling basins improved quality of settled water applied to filters. Results showed model hydraulic performance was improved after modifications, and installation of these modifications in the prototype was recommended.

摘要:
Results of a study conducted by the New Hampshire Water Supply and Pollution Control Com. on a New Hampshire lake were used to evaluate a model previously developed to predict the effects of artificial destratification on algal production in impoundments. These results may be of help in water‐quality management decision‐making.
