No statistically significant deviations in phenotype frequencies of the 25 HL‐A antigens or the ABO antigens were seen when 111 Caucasian patients with trophoblastic disease were compared with 1,259 healthy Caucasian controls. However, an increase in the incidence of HL‐A11 was found in 39 patients whocurrentlyhad the disease, but not in 72 who had recovered from the disease. Further, an increase in the frequency of W18 was observed among 18 patients whocurrentlyhad‘invasive’disease (choriocarcinoma or invasive mole), but not in 44 who had recovered from such disease. If valid for larger patient population, these increases may suggest association of HL‐All and W18 with the‘morbidity’of the trophoblastic disease.No increase in histocompatibility was seen in 45 patient‐couples over 67 control‐couples in terms of decrease in the number of male spouse's HL‐A incompatibilities, and no significant difference was seen in the distribution of pregnancies in the two groups. No significant difference was observed in the incidence of different male‐female combinations of ABO blood groups between 95 patient‐couples and an equal number of control‐couples.Lymphocytotoxic antibodies were found in 64 patients (158 sera) or 36% of the 178 patients (413 sera) examined. HL‐A specific antibodies were found in 30 or 17% patients (39 sera). Of these 30, 24 patients had molar pregnancies and six had choriocarcinoma. Between 426 and 1,967 unrelated Danes have been HL‐A typed for most presently known HL‐A antigens of the LA (first), FOUR (second), and AJ (third) segregant series. Antigen, gene and haplotype frequencies with delta values are given. AJ series antigens are most strongly associated with some of the FOUR series antigens, and except for one case, the linkage disequilibrium between AJ and FOUR does not seem to be influenced by the LA series; the exception concerns HL‐AS, RH‐315, and 12: the RH‐315 determinant is significantly more frequent on HL‐A9,12 haplotypes than on other HL‐A12 carrying haplotypes. The term “superhaplotype” is suggested for gene constellations such as the HL‐AS, RH‐315, 12 “haplotype”. The Second International Nonhuman Primate Histocompatibility Workshop permitted comparison of rhesus monkey alloantisera developd in various laboratories on a single common panel of related and unrelated monkeys. Analysis of the data permits the conclusion that at least nine specificities are recognized by more than one laboratory, including six at the first locus and three at the second locus.

Somatic cell hybrids between D98/AH‐2 and fibroblasts or peripheral blood lymphocytes were analysed for the expression of HL‐A antigens. The hybrids express the antigens of the donor lymphocytes or fibroblasts as well as other HL‐A specificities from D98/AH‐2, a Hela derivative on which no HL‐A could be detected by direct cytotoxicity. The antigen W22 was found to be subdivided into three components in the Japanese population. Population and family studies indicate that a t least two of these components are new antigens. By using both known and new antigens, gene and haplotype frequencies in the Japanese population are shown.

HL‐A types were determined in 90 successive patients with non‐granulomatous uveitis. Fifty‐one were HL‐A27 positive (55.7%) compared to 8.2% of controls. Of 16 patients with ankylosing spondylitis, 13 were HL‐A27 positive, as were two patients with a history of Reiter's syndrome.Twenty‐eight patients were HL‐A27 positive but had no evidence of rheumatic disease. A study conducted in30normal human colons, obtained from cadaveric kidney donors, has evidenced the presence of two polymorphic antigenic specificities, W and Z, in the secretory cells of the colon mucosa. Three phenotypes have been demonstrated so far: W‐Z‐ (frequency: 0.17), W–Z+ (frequency: 0.23), and W+Z+(frequency: 0.60). Specific anti‐WZ and anti‐W alloantibodies, independent of anti‐A and B agglutinins, were found in normal sera from blood donors. No apparent correlation was found between the WZ specificities and the ABH Lewis specificities, the other blood group systems specificities, and the leucocyte group (HL‐A)
