Genetic analysis of HL‐A, MLR and other immunologic studies are difficult to conduct in a typical Caucasian population where families tend to be small and lineage complex. During a search among offsprings of first cousin marriages three SD and LD homozygous individuals were found. They are supposed to define three alleles ‐j, lands‐ at the major MLC locus. In a sample of 101 unrelated and healthy adult Danes, the gene frequency was found to beP(j)= 0.078,P(l)= 0.1225 andP(s)= 0.1460. Each of these genes was found to be strongly associated with one or two SD genes ‐ most often at the FOUR series ‐ and the degree of gametic association was similar to that of the SD haplotypes, HL‐A1,8 and HL‐A3,7. The allelejshowed the strongest association with W5, whilesshowed association with HL‐A7 andlis associated with both HL‐A12 and W19. Human peripheral blood granulocytes reacted with allogeneic or xenogeneic antisera and when stained with FITC formed polar caps very rapidly. Within 8 min, 90 % of the cells had clusters and polar caps. Cap formation generally paralleled the motility function of the cells. It occurred just as rapidly on granulocytes kept in hanging drops or in constant motion within a test tube as on glass slides. Phagocytic function of the cells was not affected by capping.

Blood groups and HL‐A antigens were determined in 12 members of a family in which chronic lymphocytic leukaemia (CLL) occurs in four siblings. Fresh thymus tissue from 31 infants and from three adults was examined by indirect immunofluorescenc‐e using antisera from active cases of pemphigus vulgaris.
