One hundred eighty‐two Balinese were typed for HLA‐A and ‐B locus antigens. From these, 103 were also typed for HLA ‐C, 51 for HLA‐DR, 172 for Bf and 173 for GLO. These results and the significant phenotypic associations are situated with respect to other South‐East Asian populations. A homogeneous group of 53 Caucasian subjects with high‐grade osteosarcoma (OS) was typed for HLA‐A and B locus antigens. Although no significant differences in the distribution of these antigens were found in comparison with 425 local controls, a trend towards an increase of HLA‐B18 and decrease of HLA‐B21 was observed. The HLA‐D region of the Major Histocompatibility Complex has been subdivided since 1978 (Mawas et al. 1978) into two subregions separable by recombination: a telomeric subregion (closer to HLA‐B), coding for the classical HLA‐DR or Dw specificities (Mawas et al. 1980) as well as for the more recent MT series (Park et al. 1980); and a centromeric subregion (closer to GLO), coding for a new series of alleles provisionally named SB (for secondary B cell antigens) (Shaw et al. 1980, 1981a). Cell‐free HLA A and B antigens, paternal and maternal, have been detected in human amniotic fluids obtained from women at 16‐18 weeks’gestation. Fractionation of amniotic fluid samples on sephadex showed that HLA A and B antigen activity was mainly in the 40,000 to 70,000 mol. wt. fractions. Lentil lectin sepharose 4B affinity chromatography of 30,000 to 70,000 sephadex molecular weight fraction of amniotic fluids isolated proteins which gave 2 bands, M and N, on discontinuous polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (disc PAGE without SDS). SDS disc PAGE of the LcH bound glycoproteins recovered from amniotic fluids indicated 4 main protein bands approximately 12,900, 32,000, 52,600 and 78,500 mol. wt. Schiff's stain of the SDS gels showed that all the proteins except the 12,900 mol. wt. polypeptide contained carbohydrate.It was suggested that the 12,900 and 32,000 mol. wt. proteins obtained on disc PAGE gels represented the 2 subunits of the HLA A and B antigen molecule, i.e., β2,‐microglobulin and the allospecific heavy chains, similar to the papain‐solubilized moiety of membrane antigens. In the absence of SDS the 2 polypeptides migrate in polyacrylamide gels aslprotein band M, representing the intact (undissociated) antigen molecules. B lymphocyte enriched suspensions isolated by E rosette depletion (E−cells) or by nylon fiber adherence (adherent cells) were identified by their cellular composition using different T and B cell markers (SIg, E receptor, T3, T4, T8 and Ia‐like antigens). The cells were isolated from peripheral blood both of healthy donors and uremic dialysis patients. A variable proportion of non‐B cells was found in some preparations. This contaminant was represented mainly by Null cells in E−lymphocyte suspensions and by T cells in the adherent population. Contaminating T lymphocytes were most frequently found in adherent cell preparations from uremic individuals and appeared to be an heterogeneous population including variable proportions of T4, T8 and Ia positive T cells. Twenty different antigens have been detected on bovine lymphocytes. Family studies suggested that 19 of the antigens were under the control of two closely‐linked loci.
