SummaryAllopurinol is a frequently used drug for the treatment of gout and hyperuricaemia. It has been estimated that as many as 60% of patients receive the drug for asymptomatic hyperuricaemia. Often little thought is given to the patient's renal function, the correct dosage of allopurinol or to the concomitant use of other drugs, e.g. thiazides. Approximately 10% of patients develop a mild reaction of a cutaneous or gastrointestinal nature. Severe life‐threatening hypersensitivity reactions can and do occur, as will be described in an illustrative case report. SummaryA retrospective study of 37 patients with bullous pemphigoid was conducted at the Middle Road Hospital. The mean age of onset was 58.4 years. There was no significant difference in the incidence between males and females. Singaporeans of Indian origin had a higher incidence of bullous pemphigoid. There was no significant association with internal malignancy.The commonest immunoreactant detected at the basement membrane zone (BMZ) was C3 (87.8 %). There was no correlation between the titre of serum anti BMZ antibody and the clinical activity of the disease. There were nine deaths in this group (24 %). Only two patients (22%) had active skin lesions at the time of death.

SummaryAn occult naevus associated with a halo of depigmentation is described in a ten year old boy. The development of three lesions in this boy supports the concept that the development progressed from leucoderma to halo naevus to normal pigmented naevus instead of the progression from pigmented naevus to halo naevus to leucoderma as is normally found.

SummaryIn this paper we report fifty‐nine patients with erythema multiforme. Thirty‐four of the patients were classified as erythema multiforme major (EM major) or Stevens‐ Johnson syndrome and the other twenty‐five erythema multiforme minor (EM minor). SummaryA study was undertaken using the camouflage cosmetics available in Australia. Three camouflage cosmetics were compared in a variety of skin conditions. It was found Dermacolor was preferred to Covermark and Keromask. So far, a similar study has not been done.
