SummaryFoot dermatitis can be an extremely disabling problem. Blistering and weeping feet may become secondarily infected and painful fissuring often occurs, resulting in inability to walk. The diagnosis of contact dermatitis due to shoes should be considered in every case of persistent foot dermatitis. It is only by careful patch testing that this diagnosis can be made. SummaryA fixed drug eruption related to the ingestion of Maloprim is described in Papua New Guinea Defence Force members and their dependants. Provocation tests using the two constituents of Maloprim indicated that dapsone was the cause. A fixed drug eruption caused by dapsone was reported in 1964 in deeply pigmented leprosy patients in Africa. This eruption has not been reported in Papua New Guinean leprosy patients on dapsone therapy.

SummarySurveys of Victorian dermatologists and pathologists were undertaken to determine the number of patients attending medical practitioners with non‐melanotic skin cancers and solar keratoses. Results suggest that at least 1,000 patients per week are attending for diagnosis and treatment.Accuracy of clinical diagnosis studies suggest that the correct diagnosis of these tumours isbeing made clinically in approximately 70% of cases by experienced clinicians. It is suggested that histology be obtained in all lesions in which a clinical diagnosis of skin cancer is considered. SummaryEpithelioma cuniculatum is an uncommon variant of squamous cell carcinoma occurring on the extremities. It is characterised by local invasion but has little tendency to metastasise. A case fitting the clinical and histopathological description of epithelioma cuniculatumis described.

SummaryFinger nail and great toe nail growth was observed in 42 subjects: 28 over 11 months of an expedition at an Antarctic Station and 14 over 10 months on a Sub‐antarctic island. The mean rates of finger nail growth were 109.8μm per day and 106.4 μm per day respectively, and great toe nail growth was approximately half the finger nail growth at both locations.These findings confirm that nail growth in Antarctic regions is comparable to that in temperate climates with no significant differences during colder months or in different cold locations.
