摘要:
Masugi nephritis was studied in the male nude and their normal littermate BALB/c mice. In the second phase, severe histological changes consisting of numerous thrombi, thickening of the capillary walls, segmental capillary necrosis, tubular atrophy and numerous casts in the tubular lumen were found in the nephritic nude mice. By electron microscopy, dense deposits were found in the subendothelial space, together with massive fibrin deposition in the capillary lumina. Degeneration and disappearance of endothelial cells could also be seen. On the other hand, the nephritic BALB/c mice showed definite hypercellularity of the glomeruli but less exudative changes. In the second phase, granular deposition of mouse IgG was seen in the mesangium of the nephritic nude mice. In contrast, in the nephritic BALB/c mice, mouse IgG was localized in a linear fashion along the capillary walls. In the plaque forming assay, no indirect plaques against rabbit gamma‐globulin were developed in the nephritic nude mic

摘要:
An autopsy case of a 73‐year‐old man with “black thyroid” was reported. Investigations by light and electron microscopy and histochemical study of the black thyroid material disclosed the massive deposition brown granules in the follicular cells, to be residual bodies containing lipids. Lipids in these granules were mainly composed of phospholipid by biochemical analysis. Concerning the thyroidal function of this case the value of T4‐I in the serum was within normal range (4.8–7.5 μg/dl) and peroxidase, NADPH‐cytochrome C reductase and acid phosphatase activity in the black thyroid material revealed no significant increase or decrease, compared with other 12 autopsied cases. These granules resembled so‐called lipofuscin granules, and the frequency and grade of the deposition in autopsied cases inc

摘要:
Localized amyloid deposits were found in 44% of the surgically removed heart valves. They are recognized only in severely destructed valves and the manner of the deposition closely resembles that of aortic intimal amyloid. Although the amyloid fibril protein of the chronically diseased valves is still unknown, it may be neither protein AA nor AL, and another type of amyloid is suggested.

摘要:
The bifurcation pads (“valve‐like projections”) in the anterior cerebral arteries of rats with long‐term hypertension were studied electron microscopically. The rats ranging in age from 2 to 10 months were sacrificed after bilateral renal artery constriction at 5‐week‐old. In the bifurcation pads (intimal pads) of hypertensive rats, smooth muscle cell damage first appeared in the roots of the pads as well as underlying media in the form of granular, vesicular, and somewhat tubular structures (200–1500 Å in diameter). Thereafter, with a lapse in time after the operation, these abnormal substances increased around the smooth muscle cells which were arranged in the marginal zones of the pads. Deeply arranged intimal smooth muscle cells which were embedded in an abundance of ground substances were only damaged in rats with very long‐term hypertension. The medial smooth muscle cells beneath the pads manifested lesions which were more marked and diffuse than in the intima. These smooth muscle cells were bizarrely atrophied and abnormal substances which might be derived from necrotic smooth muscle cells were found around them. Basement membrane‐like substances, either thick or multilaminated, were also p

摘要:
The thyroid glands of nine patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis were studied by immunoperoxidase method for immunoglobulin (Ig) and thyroid hormone, and of these four tissue specimens were further examined by electron microscope. Immunoperoxidase method for Ig revealed that about 63% of the infiltrating cells contained Ig, and that about 90% of such Ig‐containing cells had IgG. IgG‐containing cells seemed to secrete autoantibodies. Immunoperoxidase method for thyroid hormone and electron microscopy revealed that there was a good correlation between the morphological features of the thyroid follicle and its immunohistochemical staining pattern. In follicles composed of columnar cells, the colloid and cytoplasm of some epithelial cells were immunohistochemically stained. Dense deposits, regarded as immune complexes, were observed in the basement membrane of these follicles, and lymphocytes were seen between the adjacent cells. When similar deposits appeared in the basement membrane of such follicles, 4 or more lymphocytes per follicle could be seen among the epithelial cells. The present findings seem to indicate that antibody‐dependent cell‐mediated cytotoxicity plays an important role in the pathogenesis of Hashimoto's thyr

摘要:
Liver biopsy specimens from a primary biliary cirrhosis (PBG) patient and two control patients with other biliary disorders were examined under the electron microscope, with special reference to intrahepatic bile ducts. The PBG patient had a bile duct with an 80 μm diameter that showed specific alterations in epithelial cells. These cells were termed oncocytes, and their main features were: the presence of a large number of swollen mitochondria with abnormal cristae, no mitochondrial bodies, small number of exocrine granules and an undulated nucleus with a large cytoplasm. The number of mitochondria per ultrathin‐sectioned epithelial cell was greater by about 2 times in the oncocytic epithelial cells compared to the control cells. Fine fibrils and long‐spacing collagens were present around the PBC bile duct. Periductal capillaries of the bile duct had multilayered basement membranes. These periductal changes may have induced the oncocytic changes in the epithelial cells. The basement membrane of the bile duct was meandrous and often disrupted, but not multilayered. Many lymphocytes and macrophages infiltrated among the epithelial c

摘要:
Pale eosinophilic inclusions simulating ground‐glass appearance were observed in cells of hepatocellular carcinoma. They were round or elliptical in shape, and their size was about 14 μm in diameter. Light eosinophilia and fine granulation with homogeneous appearance were delineated from other cellular materials. They were negative for HBsAg blood plasma proteins including α1‐antitrypsin, and α‐fetoprotein by immunohistochemical stainings. Ultrastructurally, they were well‐demarcated and consisted of homogeneous finely granular matrix. Histological, histochemical and ultrastructural features were different from several intracellular inclusions hitherto reported on hepatocellular carcinoma. These changes may represent a deposition of secretory proteinous materials in cells of hepatocellular carcinoma, but their chemical and antigenetical content could not be

摘要:
Dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans arizing in the thigh of a 23‐year‐old female is reported with an investigation of tumor cell character by electron microscopy, enzyme histochemistry, immunological and in vitro tissue culture techniques. The tumor tissue showed histologically a peculiar storiform arrangement of plump spindle cells with dense proliferation. Electron microscope revealed histiocytic cell structures of some tumor cells; lysosomes, phagosomes, and sparse rough endoplasmic reticula. They revealed diffuse positive reactions to acid phosphatase (Ac Pase) and nonspecific esterase. Short‐time culture of the tumor tissue indicated rather round and polygonal cells admixed with spindle cells, positive to Ac Pase and non‐specific esterase with diffuse reaction. Most of the round cells possessed Fc and C3 receptors on their surface and phagocytic activity. Dermatoflbrosarcoma protuberans is probably a histiocytic tumor and structural characteristics of Schwann cells were not rec

摘要:
An autopsy case of a primary malignant tumor of the heart in a 15‐year‐old boy was reported. The tumor had possibly arisen from the subendocardial region of the septal area of right atrium, occupied the atrial septum and formed a spherical mass with a diameter of ca. 9 cm. It protruded into the right atrial chamber and ruptured the endocardium. Multiple metastases were observed in the lungs and the paratracheal lymph nodes. On the basis of light and electron microscopic features, the tumor was interpreted as a poorly differentiated mesenchymal tumor with partial myxosarcomatous differentiation. The histogenetical aspects of this tumor were discussed with reference to morphology and cytodifferentiation of primitive mesenchymal tissues of the he
