摘要:
This letter presents the preliminary results of a study on the dependence of photothermal displacement signal on temperature in crystalline silicon wafers and coated silicon samples. The temperature enters indirectly into the signal as thermal conductivity, specific heat and thermal expansion coefficient of the material vary with temperature. The experimental results are consistent with that theoretically expected by taking into account the dependence of thermal conductivity from dopant concentration at low temperatures.

摘要:
Optical beams reflected or transmitted by a dielectric interface undergo several non-specular deformations: changes in the beam amplitude, lateral, focal and angular shifts of the beam axis and a magnification of the beam width. In this communication the non-specular interaction of the beam with, in general, multilayered, planar dielectric structure is described in terms of the ray transfer matrix formalism. A relationship between the beam deformations and a 3 × 3 ray transfer matrix of the structure is built. Transfer matrix elements are shown in a simple form dependent on the real deformations.

We derive expressions for the third-order nonlinearities responsible for the optical phase conjugation via backward degenerate four-wave mixing using various combinations of left and right circularly polarized beams in isotropic media. The effects of polarization conjugation and the nulling effect of phase conjugate waves are also discussed in an isotropic medium.

摘要:
A stimulated Brillouin scattering mirror has been used to ‘temporally tune’ from nanoseconds to subnanoseconds the width of laser pulses generated by a free running XeCl oscillator, equipped with a super-Gaussian reflectivity unstable resonator. Pulse shortening techniques by stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) and by truncated SBS have been investigated. A maximum pulse shortening of about fifty has been achieved by truncated SBS.

摘要:
A practical technique is demonstrated for the optothermal modulation of laser diodes, with supporting theory. Thermal power is produced optically by focusing the output of another laser onto the diode output facet. The relative magnitudes of the frequency and power modulation are shown to be sensitive to the position of the heated region, and under appropriate conditions useful frequency modulation amplitudes can be achieved (⋍ GHz) with negligible power modulation.

A spectral model for refractive index fluctuations, showing the characteristic ‘bump’ at high wavenumbers, is proposed for theoretical studies involving optical propagation. Using this spectrum, analytical expressions are developed for the variance of log-amplitude that show good agreement with numerical results based on the Hill spectrum.

摘要:
The experimental results of diffraction efficiency as a function of the geometrical disposition of recording beams in bleached silver halide transmission thick-holographic gratings are presented. Two variables have been used to relate these results with certain geometric parameters. These variables are spatial frequency and the slant angle of the interference fringes in the material. The experimental results obtained show that while maximum diffraction efficiency and refractive index modulation depend strongly on spatial frequency, they vary little with slant angle.

摘要:
An optical incoherent implementation of a general and programmable cellular automaton is reported. The implementation is based on an incoherent multiple-imaging system and electronic nonlinear circuits. All of 256 distinct local rules of a 1D elementary cellular automaton are achieved by simply specifying the different transparencies of a spatial light modulator (SLM) mask. The complex cellular automata can be synthesized based on the optical system. Simulations and experimental results are also given.
