Storage processes — the role of plant hormonesThe role of plant hormones in the regulation of induction and development of fruits and vegetative storage organs and in the storage process is critically reviewed. Evidence is presented that growth and development of storage organs is regulated by a complex interaction of all known plant hormones. By changing the sink‐capacity the hormones influence the intensity and direction of the assimilate flow. Role of cytokinins in flower and fruit developmentAfter a survey of the literature on the role of cytokinins in flower development, it is discussed whether the accumulation of cytokinins in developing seeds is a cause or the result of the sink activity of these seeds. Although most data indicate accumulation of cytokinins derived from elsewhere, possible local biosynthesis of cytokinins within developing seeds should be further investigated, particularly in experiments with isolated ovaries and ovules culturedin vitro.

Growth and ripening of berry grapesBerry enlargement shows a characteristical double‐sigmoid curve. It can be shown that there was an increase up to a maximum in the amount of endogenous auxin and cytokinin during the period of the first berry growth and a sudden decrease after having attained a short stop of berry growth. Fruit Effect on Photosynthesis and RespirationSeveral investigations about fruit effects on photosynthesis and respiration, mainly ofCitrus madurensis(Lour.) andSolanum melongena(L) plants are reviewed.Fruiting plants had higher photosynthetic rates (mg CO2· dm−2· h−1) than non fruiting ones, particularly during stages of most intensive fruit growth. The photosynthetic rates could be stimulated by increasing fruit temperatures.No differences in dark respiration rates of fruiting and non fruiting plants were observed. However photorespiration was considerably higher in non fruiting plants as compared to fruiting ones. Leaves of non fruiting plants accumulated more sugars and starch in the leaves during the light periods than fruiting ones.The gaseous diffusive resistance of leaves was higher in non fruiting as compared to fruiting ones.The higher photosynthetic efficiency of fruiting plants is probably controlled by several mechanisms, some of which were discussed in the

Se‐Fixierung durch Tonminerale und Fe‐oxideBei der Untersuchung der Se‐Fixierung lag das Hauptaugenmerk darauf festzustellen, welche Bodenbestandteile zur Se‐Bindung befähigt sind. Hierbei wurde die Bedeutung der Fe‐hydro‐oxide für die Se‐Fixierung besonders herausgestellt. Die gewöhnlichen Bodentonminerale wie Kaolinit, Montmorillonit und Vermiculit zeigen sämtlich Se‐Fixierung; jedoch trat bei Tonmineralen des 1:1‐Schichttyps stärkere Fixierung ein als bei solchen des 2:1‐Typs. Versuche mit feingemahlenen Mineralen zeigten einen starken pH‐Einfluß auf die Fixierungsgeschwindigkeit. Das Maximum wurde zwischen pH 3 und 5 erreicht; bei weiter ansteigendem pH trat ein starker Rückgang der Fixierung auf. In dem Fe2O3‐System trat bei pH>8 ein leichter Rückgang der Se‐Fixierung ein.Anhand der Extrahierbarkeit des Se aus den Tonmineralen ließ sich erkennen, daß Tonminerale vom 1:1‐Schichttyp Selenit in schwerer löslicher Form festlegen als solche des 2:1‐Typs, und daß Selenit an Tonen hauptsächlich durch eine Oberflächen‐Austauschreaktion adsorbiert wurde. Der überwiegende Anteil des zugesetzten Selenits war in dem Fe2O3‐System in potentiell und schwerverfügbarer Form vorhanden. Danach ist zu vermuten, daß die Se‐Fixierung sowohl durch Austauschreakti

Charakterisierung von aus solonetzartigen Böden extrahierter organischer SubstanzIn einer Serie von solonetzartigen und geographisch ähnlichen Böden wurde die Frage der Zusammenhänge zwischen spezifischen Veränderungen in ihrer Zusammensetzung und ablaufenden pedogenen Prozessen untersucht. Im allgemeinen hatten Calciumhumate den höchsten Anteil in allen Profilen, während Huminsäuren, die an Eisen‐ und Aluminiumoxide gebunden waren, den nächsthohen Anteil hatten. Freie Fulvosäuren hatten in den am stärksten verwitterten Horizonten einen höheren Anteil als in jedem anderen untersuchten Horizont. Die C/N‐Verhältnisse verschiedener Humin‐ und Fulvosäure‐Fraktionen waren im Ah‐ viel niedriger als im Bnt‐Horizont.IR‐Untersuchungen von Humin‐ und Fulvosäure‐Fraktionen im Solonetz zeigten Ähnlichkeiten in ihren Strukturen. Physical properties of silt crustsThe physical properties of silt crusts of two locations within the eastern part of the Solling mountains in Western Germany were investigated. They were formed downhill on top of sloping grey brown podzolic soils derived from loess during heavy rainfall, which caused aggregate breakdown and erosion. The crusts were several cm in thickness. They consist of 80% coarse silt (20–60μ), of 12% medium silt (6–20μ) and of 5% clay (15μ, According to this the unsaturated hydraulic conductivity remains almost constant when tensions are increasing, but it drops immediately, when the 15μ pores drain at 200cm H2O pressure. The saturated conductivity varies with porosity in the range of 10–50 cm/day. But in the Ap‐horizon of a grey brown podzolic soil with higher contents in clay and organic C the saturated conductivity varies with porosity in the range of 10–10 000 cm/day. Bildung von o‐Phosphaten. I. Bestimmung von Aluminium‐o‐phosphaten in Gegenwart von NatriumionenIn der vorliegenden Arbeit sollten zunächst die sich bildenden Al‐Phosphate aus Reaktionen zwischen Aluminium und o‐Phosphat ermittelt werden, die besonders bei Umfällungs‐ und Fällungsreaktionen von Interesse sein können. Dazu wurden H3PO4‐AlCl3‐Mischlösungen unterschiedlicher Molverhältnisse mit NaOH titriert und die Reaktionsabläufe potentiometrisch verfolgt (Abb. 1). Die jeweils titrierten H3PO4/AlCl3‐Molverhältnisse wurden gegen die NaOH/AlCl3‐Molverhältnisse an den korrespondierenden Wendepunkten in ein x‐y‐Diagramm aufgetragen (Abb. 2). Es entstanden Geraden, deren mathematische Auswertung u. a. drei Al‐Phosphate erbrachte: das dem Variszit analoge Al(OH)2H2PO4, das dem Wavellit analoge Al3(OH)8H5(PO4)2sowie ein dem Na‐Montebrasit analoges Al(OH) NaPO4. Die Existenzbereiche der drei Al‐Phosphate wie der Nebenprodukte sind in Abb. 3 in Abhängigkeit vom pH und vom vorgelegten H3PO4/AlCl3‐Molverhältnis dargestellt. Dabei hat das Al3(OH)8H5(PO4)2den relativ geringsten Existenzbereich (zwischen Gerade LIa und Gerade LIIIa). Der Existenzbereich von Al(OH)2H2PO4ist weit größer, als in der Literatur angenommen wird, und beginnt unterhalb der Geraden LIa, d. h. bei pH<3, und endet etwa mit der Geraden LIVb, d.h. bei pH ˜ 8. May. Das Na‐haltige, basische Al(OH)NaPO4beginnt etwas unterhalb der Geraden LIIIb (bei pH ˜ 5.0) u. endet mit der Bildung von Aluminat mit der Geraden LV (bei pH ˜ 10).
