AbstractHuminstoffe als die unterschiedlich extrahierbaren Fraktionen der organischen Bodensubstanz beeinflussen auf vielseitige Weise die Qualität des Bodens als Pflanzenstandort und Bestandteil der Umwelt. Insbesondere Huminsäuren und Fulvosäuren können biologischen Umsetzungen durch die Bodenmikroorganismen unterliegen. Von vielen Autoren wurde die Beteiligung unterschiedlicher Spezies von Pilzen und Aktinomyceten sowie von nichtmyzelartigen aeroben und anaeroben Bakterien am Ab‐ und Umbau von Huminstoffen unter Laborbedingungen nachgewiesen. Es gibt mehrere Hinweise auf einen strukturspezifischen Huminstoffabbau, der auf Zelloberflächen unter Beteiligung von Exoenzymen stattfindet. Die herausragende Rolle phenoloxidierender Enzyme bei diesen Prozessen konnte bestätigt werden. Der Abbau der Huminstoffe wird optisch, gravimetrisch, chemoanalytisch, biochemisch (CO2−Freisetzung) oder biologisch anhand des Mikrobenwachstums bzw. der Biomassebildung verfolgt. Seine quantitative Erfassung kann durch die Adsorption der Huminstoffe an der Mikrobenbiomasse einerseits und durch die Neubildung huminstoffähnlicher Stoffwechselprodukte andererseits erschwert werden. Es ist daher notwendig, den Abbau‐ und Umbauprozeß mehrfaktoriell zu verfolgen und gleichermaßen quantitative wie auch qualitative Parameter zu berücksichtigen. Um den natürlichen Standortbedingungen näher zu kommen, sollen Mischpopulationen von Mikroorganismen in die Untersuchungen des Huminstoffabbaus verstärkt

AbstractCa uptake by micropropagated ‘Norland’ potato plantlets was investigated in relation to cation and macroelement salt concentrations in modifiedMurashigeandSkoog(1962) basal media. Increased Ca:specific cations, by lowering NH4, Mg, or K, had little effect on the Ca content of plantlets grown on these media. Increased Ca:total cation ratio, by raising Ca from 3 to 6 mM in the medium, promoted Ca content of micropropagated plantlets. At equivalent Ca:total cation ratio, macroelement dilution increased the osmotic potential of the medium, and had an even greater impact on plantlet shoot Ca content. Root pressure, which is sensitive to variations in salt concentration, was probably the primary Ca delivery method to developing tissues since transpiration was limitedin vitro. AbstractHumic acids (HAs) from four soils were fractionated by size exclusion chromatography (SEC) on Sephadex G‐75. Three fractions were obtained in all humic acids, collected and assayed by Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (PAGE). The unfractionated HA from each soil was used as reference. Each chromatographic fraction formed one electrophoretic zone corresponding closely to one band of the reference sample with some admixture of the fractions preceding or following. The results indicate that fractionation of HAs by tandem SEC‐PAGE can be successfully used for obtaining fractions of reduced polydispersity and different electrophoretic mobilities. Pyrolysis/methylation‐gas chromatography‐mass spectrometry of the full size preparations of HA and fractions with exactly defined molecular size and electrophoretic mobility showed a different distribution in humic components, mainly lipids, lignin derivatives and N‐containing

AbstractPhysical and chemical soil degradation hinder the introduction of mixed cropping systems on former tea lands in the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka. For instance on two typical soil catenas soil properties such as texture, pH, acidity parameters, pedogenic oxides and available plant nutrients indicating fertility are presented. Obviously Al3+occupies a larger part of the exchange complex and accounts for more soil acidity than H+. Al toxicity is hence a major restricting factor for plant growth in the area. The investigated data also permit an evaluation of soil erodibility and a soil fertility assessment according to the Fertility Capability Classification System (Sanchezet al., 1982). Agricultural measures to reduce soil acidity and cover the lime requirements of the soils are advised. Additional soil conservation measures should diminish soil erosion in order to improve the sustainability of the cropping systems.

AbstractDrei Böden aus Naßreisfeldern, auf der Hochebene in Zentralmadagaskar (Region Vakinankaratra), wurden auf ihre Fruchtbarkeit hin untersucht. Das Ausgangsgestein der Böden besteht aus Kolluvium basaltischen Ursprungs. Nach derFAO‐UNESCO(1988) sind sie als Ferralic Cambisol (D2) und Dystric Gleysol (D3 und D4) klassifiziert worden. Sie sind sehr arm an “basischen” Kationen, reich an Aluminium, Eisen und Ton, der große Mengen an Gibbsit und Kaolinit sowie etwas Goethit und Quarz enthält. Diese Eigenschaften deuten auf eine große Verwitterungsintensität hin.Die Bodenfruchtbarkeit ist gering aufgrund sehr geringer pflanzenverfügbarer P‐, Ca‐, Mg‐, K‐ und N‐Gehalte bei gleichzeitig hohen Feund Mn‐Gehalten, die unter den anaeroben Verhältnissen der überfluteten Reisfelder toxisch auf die Pflanzen wirken.Unsere Empfehlung ist neben einer Düngung mit NPK‐haltigen Düngern eine Kalkung (möglichst mit Dolomit) bis auf pH‐Werte zwischen 6 und 7. AbstractIn this study nutrient supply along transects from farmland to calcareous grasslands was investigated. The aim was to assess a gradient in nutrient supply parallel to the change in species composition. Net nitrogen mineralization was measured under field conditions and in a laboratory incubation experiment. The seasonal course of net N mineralization was determined by the increase of soil temperature in spring and changes in soil moisture during summer. In the farmland soils fertilization was also an important factor. Annual net N mineralization was highest in the moderately acid soils of the Rosenberg on the Lower Devonian schist. It was lowest in the soils of the transect near Erdorf on limestone. Two transects on dolomite took an intermediate position. At all study sites net N mineralization and the mineral nitrogen contents were higher in the peripheral zones of the calcareous grasslands than in the centre of the grasslands. In the base‐rich soils of the three transects on limestone and dolomite annual net N mineralization varied in the calcareous grasslands between 4.6 and 61 mg/kg, in the peripheral zones between 35 and 190 mg/kg and in the farmland between 117 and 350 mg/kg. In the base‐poor soils of the transect on Rosenberg it was 96 mg/kg in the calcareous grassland, 115–130 mg/kg in the boundary zone and 165 mg/kg in the meadow. AbstractDie in kontaminierten Böden vorhandenen Vorräte an Kohlenwasserstoffen sind in der Regel nur untergeordnet im Porenwasser gelöst oder dampfförmig, sondern größtenteils an der organischen Bodensubstanz adsorbiert. Die herkömmlichen Methoden zur Bestimmung der Verteilungsgleichgewichte im Boden sind besonders für leichtflüchtige Organika zeitaufwendig und sehr fehlerlrächlig.Der vorliegende Beitrag stellt eine routinefähige Methode zur Bestimmung der Verteilungsgleichgewichte sowohl unter adsorptiven als auch unter desorptiven Bedingungen vor.Die Methode erbrachte für die geprüften Stoffe eine weitgehende Bestätigung der literaturbekannten Verteilungskoeffizienten unter adsorptiven Bedingungen (Koc‐ads). Weiterhin wurde eine systematische, teils sehr starke Hysterese zwischen Ad‐ und Desorption ermittelt, die die unkritische Verwendung von Koc‐ads−Wertcn für die Vorrats‐ermittlung bei Standortsanierungen ausschließt. Letztlich bestätigte die Methode auch den starken Einfluß der Qualität der organischen Substanz auf das Verteilungsgleichgewicht. AbstractGrowth and nutrition of birch seedlings(Betula pendulaRoth) with and without 0.5 mM Al3+were studied. The seedlings were cultivated at growth‐limiting Mg‐ or Ca‐conditions by adding one of these elements at relative addition rates (RMg, RCa) of 0.15 day−1. The concentration of Ca2+in the Mg‐limited treatments was 0.01.0.1 or 1 mM and Mg2+was given in equal molarities in the Ca‐limited treatments. The relative growth rates, RG, of the plants and plant parts attained values close to RMgor RCaand were not affected by the concentration of Ca2+, Mg2+or Al3+in the culture solution. Uptake of Ca, at Ca‐limitation, increased significantly in the roots after addition of Al, and decreased in all plant parts when the Mg concentration of the culture solution was raised. Less clear effects were found on Mg uptake at Mg‐limitation. The inhibitory effect of Al on Mg uptake decreased with time as a result of the growth technique. The root mass fraction was significantly larger in plants limited in Ca (24%) than in plants limited in Mg (20%). AbstractReported laboratory observations mention inhibiting effects of Al on uptake of cations. However, the diverse conditions of these experiments do not allow conclusions to be drawn about the extent of this inhibiting effect. An uptake model for Ca and Mg was therefore developed to study the interactions of Al and these cations. The model is based on surface complexation of the root surface with both specific adsorption reactions and exchange reactions included. Application of this model to experiments using a nutrient flux growth technique showed that the observed effects are well simulated. The behaviour of the model agreed with reported inhibiting effects of Al. The model showed that Al effects might be reversed by increased nutrient solution concentrations of cations. However, there exists a strong competitive interaction between Ca and Mg. Therefore, high Ca concentrations have a negative effect on the uptake of Mg. Plants with a high growth rate and a high shoot to root ratio appear to be more sensitive to Al effects than more slowly growing plants.

AbstractAuf den ARINUS‐Versuchsflächen im Schwarzwald wurden seit 198V Untersuchungen zum Mincralstoffhuushult der aufstockenden Fichtenbestände mit unterschiedlicher experimenteller Düngung durchgeführt. Hierbei stand das Nährelement Mg im Vordergrund, da auf den Flächen zu Beginn der Untersuchungen Symptome der “montanen Vergilbung der Fichte” (akuter Mg‐Mangel) zu beobachten waren. Die erfolgten Behandlungen mit Ammonsulfat, Kieserit und Dolomit hatten eine experimentelle Beeinflussung der Mg‐Ernährung zum Ziel. Im Rahmen dieser Arbeit werden Ergebnisse zum Vergilbungszustand, zur langfristigen Entwicklung der nadelanalytisch belegten Bestandesernährung, sowie zu den Bindungsformen von Ca und Mg in Nadeln und im Holz vorgestellt. Durch Gaben Mg‐haltiger Düngemittel wurde die Mg‐Versorgung der Fichten deutlich verbessert und eine Wiederergrünung der vergilbten Bestände erreicht. Die Kieseritgabe erbrachte hierbei die schnellste Verbesserung der Mg‐Versorgung. Im Gegensatz zu Mg konnte bei Ca kein Mangel festgestellt werden. Die Ergebnisse der (NH4)2SO4−Gaben zeigen, daß hohe N‐Einträge latente Mineralstoffmängel, z.B. von Mg, verstärken können. Durch die depositionsbedingt verbesserte N‐Verfügbarkeit ist gegenwärtig auf vielen Standorten ein erhöhtes Risiko von Ernährungsungleichgewichten gegeben. Um dem wirkungsvoll zu begegnen, sollten Kalkungcn bzw. Düngungen nährelemenl‐ und standortspezifische Aspekte stärker berücksichtigen.
