AbstractIn einem 12–26‐wöchigen Labor‐Kalkungsversuch wurden die pH‐Werte saurer Böden (pH‐Variation 3,6–5,4) auf ein pH>7,2 angehoben. Die pF‐Werte wurden während des Versuches auf 2 eingestellt. Die Kalkung setzte Al aus den Zwischenschichten von Al‐Chloriten frei. Dadurch nahmen die Al‐Chloritgehalte schwach signifikant, die Gehalte der Al‐Chlorit/Vermiculit‐Wechsellagerungen signifikant ab. Die Vermiculitgehalte stiegen signifikant an. Die hochsignifikante Zunahme der effektiven K‐Pufferkapazitäten (BCKe) stützte die Ergebnisse der Röntgenbeugungsanalyse. Auch die Abnahme des mobilen Kaliums (ARo) und die Zunahme der K‐Fixierung und der potentiellen Austauschkapazitäten konnte statistisch abgesichert werden. In feintonreichen Bt‐Horizonten mit vermutlich weniger dichter Einlagerung von Hydroxo‐Al‐Polymeren wirkte die Kalkung intensiver als in allen A‐Horizonten. AbstractLaboratory experiments were conducted with sodic soils of varying exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP) (82, 65, 40, and 22) and a normal soil (ESP 4) to study the changes with time in soil pH, pCO2, Fe2+and Mn2+under submerged conditions with and without 1.0 per cent rice husk. In all the soils pCO2, Fe2+and Mn2+increased after flooding, reached the maximum value and then either maintained or declined slightly. The release of Fe2+and Mn2+was maximum in normal soil and decreased with increase of ESP in sodic soils. Addition of rice husk brought about a conspicuous increase in Fe2+and Mn2+, the maximum increase being in lowest ESP soil. Flooding reduced the pH of all soils. The effect was more pronounced in the presence of rice husk. The kinetics of pCO2indicated that accumulation of CO2was higher in normal soil and least in highest ESP soil. The addition of rice husk showed an average increase of 0.0074 atm pCO2in comparison to rice husk untreated soils.

AbstractThe effect of the application of three herbicide formulations namely: Preforan (2,4‐dinitro‐4‐trifluoromethyl‐diphenyl ether), Dacthal (dimethyl 2,3,5,6‐tetrachloroterepthalate) and Dual (2,ethyl‐6‐methyl‐N‐(2‐methoxy‐1‐ethyl‐a‐chloro‐acetanilide)) on legume‐Rhizobiumsymbiosis was evaluated by incorporating these herbicide formulations into plate agar cultures of twoRhizobium strainsand into soil carrying cowpea (Vigna unguiculata(L.) Walp.). Results indicated that Dual is bactericidal — giving the lowest mean cell count for strain TAL 385 in agar culture, 3.04 × 106 compared to 3.51 and 3.43 × 106 for Dacthal and Preforan respectively. In the soil system, while the highest rate of Dacthal and Preforan merely decreased nodulation, Dual highest rate completely killed the plants within 14 days after planting. AbstractIn einem Pseudogley aus Löß wurden die δ13C‐Werte des organischen Kohlenstoffs analysiert. Einer linearen Abreicherung von etwa 1,5% in den Ah‐Horizonten folgt ab 18cm Bodentiefe eine Anreicherung, die sich über den gesamten Staunässeleiter erstreckt und ungefähr 2% ausmacht. In dem gesamten Bereich der Staunässesohle, dem IISd‐Horizont, ist der δ13C‐Wert nahezu konstant und beläuft sich auf etwa −;25,4%.Modellrechnungen deuten darauf hin, daß Verlagerungseffekte in den Ah‐Horizonten zu einer Abreicherung des13C‐Isotops führen, während Mineralisationsprozesse im anschließenden Staunässeleiter für die Anreicherung

AbstractDie Gesamtgehalte an Cd, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb und Zn der Horizonte von 4 industrie‐ und verkehrsfern gelegenen Parabraunerden und Pseudogleyen aus Würm‐Geschiebemergel unter Laubwald Ostholsteins und Dänemarks wurden ermittelt, außerdem die präparativ gewonnener Tonbeläge, Rost‐ und Bleichsektionen sowie Konkretionen. Profilbilanzen ergaben kaum Fe‐Verluste, mittlere an Cu, Pb und Zn sowie stärkere an Cd und Mn. Alle Elemente nahmen an der Tonverlagerung teil, was aber infolge anders gerichteter, ionarer Umlagerungen nicht immer zu Anreicherungen im Bt führte. AbstractSolutions of Zn, Cu and Mn chelates of EDTA, DTPA and EDDHA were reacted separately with a calcareous soil for periods up to 28 days. DTPA was an effective chelate for Zn and Cu; more than 77 and 55% of the added Zn and Cu, respectively, remained soluble after 28 days of reaction with the soil. The stability of Zn‐EDTA and Cu‐EDTA was relatively less than those of the respective DTPA chelates, whereas Zn‐EDDHA and Cu‐EDDHA were highly unstable in the soil. The loss of soluble Mn from Mn‐EDTA, Mn‐DTPA and Mn‐EDDHA additions to soil was very rapid and completed in about one week.It was found that adsorption of Zn‐EDDHA, Cu‐EDDHA and Mn‐EDDHA molecules by the soil was the main process removing Zn, Cu and Mn from solution. Whereas, replacement of the metal in the metal‐chelate molecule by Ca ion from the soil was a more serious factor affecting the stability of DTPA and EDTA chela

AbstractEs wurde exemplarisch gezeigt, daß Humuspodsole durch ihre Bh‐Horizonte und tiefreichende Humusilluviation (z. B. Humusbänder) morphologisch von anderen Podsolsubtypen abzugrenzen sind. Humuspodsole aus geschichteten Gesteinen, Eisenhumuspodsole und Eisenpodsole können nur durch quantitative laboranalytische Größen sinnvoll unterschieden werden. Aus den Untersuchungsergebnissen von 35 Profilen wird das Cpy/Fepy‐Verhältnis in den charakteristischen Illuviationssubhorizonten (Bh, Bhs, Bs) als geeignete Größe vorgeschlagen: Humuspodsole>10, Eisenhumuspodsole 3–10, Eisenpodsole<3. AbstractPleistozäne Sedimente Berlins enthalten um 10 mg/kg Blei und um 0.1 mg/kg Cadmium in vornehmlich silikatischer Bindung, Bauschutt der Innenstadt hingegen eine etwa achtfache Pb‐ und 1,5‐fache Cd‐Menge. Anthropogene Kontaminationen bewirkten im Oberboden Bleigehalte von 50–100 mg/kg, in Straßennähe über 200 mg/kg und Cadmiumgehalte von 0.3–0.6 mg/kg. Beide Elemente erwiesen sich als wenig azetatlöslich; atmogenes Pb und Cd ist teils AEDTA‐löslich, das übrige ist in der Tonfraktion angereichert. AbstractThe objective of this research was to determine the availability to plants of elements in sewage sludge irradiated with high‐energy electrons for disinfection. Irradiated raw sludge (irradiated with an electron dose of 400 krad) and non‐irradiated raw sludge were obtained from the Deer Island Wastewater Treatment Plant of Boston, Massachusetts. The sludges were used to grow 12 plant species under controlled‐environmental conditions. The species were: bush bean (Phaseolus vulgarisL.), sweet corn (Zea maysL.), dill (Anethum graveolensL.), lettuce (Lactuca sativaL.), mustard (Brassica junceaCoss.), parsley (Petroselinum crispumNym.), pumpkin (Cucurbita pepoL.), radish (Raphanus sativusL.), spinach (Spinacia oleraceaL.), Swiss chard (Beta vulgaris ciclaL.), tomato (Lycopersicon esculentumMill.), wheat (Triticum aestivumL. em. Thell.). Plants were also grown with inorganic fertilizer added at recommended rates or with tap water. At the end of the experiment (44 days after planting), dry weight and elemental composition of the plants and soil (fine sandy loam, Typic Ustifluvent) were determined.There was no measurable difference in nutrient composition of soil treated with irradiated and non‐irradiated raw sludge. In general, plants treated with irradiated raw sludge grew as well as plants treated with non‐irradiated raw sludge. Most plants treated with sludge grew as well as plants treated with inorganic fertilizer. Elemental composition of plants treated with irradiated sludge was similar to that of plants treated with non‐irradiated sludge. Sludge‐treated dill, parsley, spinach, and Swiss chard had high concentrations of one or more of the following heavy elements: Zn, Cu, Ni, Cr. The results showed that plants grown with sludge irradiated with high‐energy electrons were similar to plants grown with non‐
