AbstractAn L‐, O‐ und A‐Horizonten der Humusformen Mull, Model und Rohhumus wurden unter Verwendung von Perfusionsapparaturen Arsenbelastungsversuche mit Na2HAsO4im Labor durchgeführt. Das höchste Sorptionsvermögen wiesen die Horizonte des Mulls auf. Die Arsenatadsorption der mineralischen A‐Horizonte nahm mit steigendem Oxalat‐Fe und ‐Al zu. Im Perfusionsversuch wurde Arsen in L‐ und O‐Horizonten vermutlich vornehmlich in Form definierter Arsenate ausgefällt und weniger an organische Substanzen sorbiert. Die ermittelten Sorptionskurven ließen sich mit der Freundlichgleichung beschreiben. Die Mikroorganismen verhielten sich gegenüber Arsenat relativ tolerant. Erst Lösungskonzentrationen>8 μg As/ml wirkten toxisch. Extrem hohe Belastungen bis 10 mg As/g hemmten die mikrobielle Aktivität häufig nicht stärker al

AbstractMössbauer spectra of three nontronite samples (Garfield H33a and SWa‐1 from Washington State, U.S.A., and a sample from Hundsangen, Germany), taken between room temperature and 4.2 K in the velocity range ± 10.5 mm/s, showed between 2.9 and 13% of the total iron to be bound in goethite and not in the nontronite structure. This extraneous iron limits the utility of room temperature spectra for the assignment of structural iron sites in these samples.An adequately good distinction of the contributions of goethite and nontronite was possible in Mössbauer spectra taken at 77 K. The spectral components arising from iron in the nontronite octahedral sheets could be fitted with distributions of quadrupole‐split doublets. These distributions indicate the existence of quasi‐continuous octahedral site variations rather than two discrete (cis and trans) sites, and thus favour a structural model in which all octahedral iron is in cis coor

AbstractPartial reduction of iron(III) oxides with hydrogen in the presence of a platinum catalyst leads to an equilibrium state after 4–20 h. From the measured Eh, pH, and Fe2+concentration conditional standard potentials can be calculated using the formula Eo(volt) = Eh + 0.059 lg(Fe2+) + 0.18 pH which indicate the stability of Fe oxides against reduction. AbstractUm die Auswirkung des Einsatzes schwerer landwirtschaftlicher Maschinen auf das Bodengefüge festzustellen, wurden bodenphysikalische Eigenschaften von drei Bodentypen (Braunerde, Pseudogley und Parabraunerde) unter Acker und Dauergrünland unter den klimatischen Bedingungen Südbayerns verglichen. Lagerungsdichte, gesättigte Wasserleitfähigkeit und Aggregatstabilität wurden bis zu Bodentiefen von mindestens 50 cm durch den Einsatz schwerer Maschinen negativ beeinflußt. Die Aggregatdichten wurden nur in einigen Fällen signifikant erhöht. Hieraus kann gefolgert werden, daß die festgestellte Bodenverdichtung unter Ackernutzung u.a. auf einer dichteren Anordnung kleiner Aggregate im Vergleich zu Dauergrünl

AbstractAn Böden der vier Standorte des Nährstoffpotentialversuches Hallertau mit der Körnung S, uS, uL und stL wurden die Tonmineraleigenschaften nach der Standardmethode (Expansion mit Glycerin) und mit n‐Alkylammonium (Rnc‐NH3+‐Ton) bestimmt. Die aufweitbaren Minerale der Sandböden gehören faktisch alle zu den Smectitens.s.(s.s.= sensu stricto) mit einer Ladungsvarianz von 0.42–0.28 Ladungsaequivalente pro Formeleinheit (Laeq. p. FE). Die aufweitbaren Minerale der Lehmböden sind ein Gemenge von Smectitens.s.und Vermiculiten. Die Gesamtladungsvarianz der Smectite reicht von 0.54 bis 0.28 Laeq. p. FE. Im Feinton (<0.1 μm) konnten keine Vermiculite festgestellt werden. Die Ladungsdichte der Vermiculite mit homogen verteilter Ladung auf den Silicatschichten variiert in den unterteilten Kornfraktionen zwischen 0.60 und 0.95 Laeq. p. FE.Die mit den Meßwerten des fortgesetzten K‐Austausches durch Ca erweiterten unmittelbaren (immediate) K‐Ca‐Austauschkurven lassen in allen Fällen einen stärker (Sandböden) oder weniger stark (Lehmböden) gekrümmten und kontinuierlichen Verlauf erkennen. Dies wird mit den Tonmineralergebnissen diskutiert. Nach 8jähriger unterlassener K‐Düngung liegt der als Smectit‐K bestimmte K‐Vorrat mit 168 bis 497 kg K/ha für die Oberböden recht hoch. Die konstanten K‐Desorptionsraten variieren zwischen 12.8 und 28.7 kg K/ha. Sie sind zwischen ungedüngt und gedüngt bei den Lehmböden besser differenziert als bei den Sandböden. AbstractThe effects of various simple ions and molecules on the extent and products of the conversion of ferrihydrite into more crystalline products are compared. These ions and molecules can be classified according to how strongly they retard the transformation of ferrihydrite, whether they favour the formation of haematite relative to goethite or whether they retard the formation of goethite more strongly than that of haematite and finally, whether foreign ions can replace a proportion of Fe in the goethite structure.Simple ions and molecules operate through two mechanisms. They adsorb on ferrihydrite and stabilize it and they also act by hindering the nucleation of goethite in solution. Adsorption on ferrihydrite retards the transformation to a far greater extent than does interference in solution.

AbstractWe studied the spatial distribution of the amount and types of Fe oxides in a Ferric Acrisol having a red‐yellow mottled horizon. Red mottles contain hematite and goethite; yellow mottles have goethite but in amounts markedly smaller than those of the contiguous red mottles. We think that reductive dissolution caused the disappearance of the hematite and part of the goethite in the yellow mottles. AbstractThe influence of a recent forest fire on the iron oxide phases, present in the A and the B horizon of a brown earth from Corsica, was examined by X‐ray diffraction and chemical analysis. In the B horizon goethite and lepidocrocite, in the A horizon maghemite and hematite were identified. From the Al/(Al+Fe) ratio, which was determined for all four minerals by XRD, it was concluded that goethite was the precursor of hematite and lepidocrocite the precursor of maghemite respectively. The proportion of maghemite formed in the A horizon was calculated from the difference in Fedbetween the untreated sample and that free of maghemite. AbstractA method for the collection of soil solution and the determination of pH, H2CO3* (= CO2(aq) plus H2CO3°), HCO3−and CO32−, was developed which excluded atmospheric gases during the entire procedure. The soil solution was collected by tension lysimeters without exposure to the atmosphere. Using a closed system, the sample was transferred to a titration beaker for the analysis of pH, H2CO3* and HCO3−. The analysis of CO2‐acidity was done by titration with 0.0454 N Na2CO3to the end point pH of 8.3. It was immediately followed by an acidimetric titration for the determination of alkalinity using 0.005 N H2SO4under gentle N2flow; the equivalence point was determined graphically from the titration curve. In standard solutions, this method gave nearly 100% recovery of H2CO3* and HCO3−. In soil solutions, the pH markedly increased and H2CO3* decreased upon exposure to the atmosphere. The values of the sum of CO2‐acidity and alkalinity in soil solutions at a depth>5 cm agreed well with the values of total inorganic carbon obtained by CO2infrared detection following CO2degassing. For solutions obtained from 100 cm and 300 cm depth (limestone) the measured distribution of H2CO3* and HCO3−was in agreement with the calculated values based on pH‐measurement and total inorganic carbon. This comparison was unsatisfactory for the concentration of H2CO3* in solutions of the surface (0–15 cm) soil, possibly because the mathematical model as well as the interpretation of the titration curves did not consider any organic compoun

AbstractDie Scherfestigkeit des Oberbodens wurde an sieben verschiedenen südchilenischen Andepts mittlerer Hanglage bestimmt. Bei einem der Andepts wurden zusätzlich Proben aus einer Catena genommen. Es sollte festgestellt werden, inwieweit einmal die Scherspannungseigenschaften innerhalb und zwischen Bodenserien variieren, und zum anderen welche sonstigen physikalischen Eigenschaften die größte Variation zwischen den Böden aufweisen. Hierzu wurden die Meßergebnisse multiplen Regressions‐, Hauptkomponenten‐ (HKA) und Clusteranalysen unterzogen, um zu prüfen, welche Bodeneigenschaften für die Gruppierung der Andepts genutzt werden können.Die Konsistenzgrenzen und die Scherfestigkeitskomponenten haben innerhalb der ersten beiden Komponenten der HKA von allen Proben gleicher Lage die größte Variabilität. Aus den HKA kann geschlossen werden, daß die Scherfestigkeitskomponenten als Kriterien für die Einteilung der untersuchten Andepts benutzt werden können, sie tragen aber nur mäßig zur Gesamtvariation zwischen den Proben der Catena bei.Die Bodenproben von den Serien gleicher topographischer Lage gruppieren sich durch ihre Entfernung zur Andenkordillere und ihre Körnung.
