摘要:
At the start of the project, a hardwired controller existed for controlling the welding sequence required for pulsed TIG welding. Such a sequence controls the gas flow, arc current and torch movement. This controller has now been replaced by a microprocessor-based design. The system is described in this paper and it readily carries out the functions of the hardwired controller but, in addition, is able to store programs of the welding sequence parameters, operate visual displays and permit alteration by keyboard the value of any one of the parameters even while the weld is being created. The design is based upon the Intel 8080 microprocessor and all the necessary interfaces to the welding plant have been developed. The software was developed initially on a prototyping system and then a main frame computer (ICL 1906S). In order to test the developed controller, an experimental TIG welding apparatus has been constructed. The result of successful welding tests are given including photographs of sample welds. The project has clearly illustrated that microprocessors can be used in hostile electrical environments and the results presented are an important step in the development of a fully automated TIG welding system.

摘要:
A self-supervised learning algorithm using fuzzy set and the concept of guard zones around the class representative vectors is presented and demonstrated for vowel recognition. An optimum guard zone having the best match with the fully supervised performance is determined. Results are also compared with that of nonsupervised case for various orders of input patterns.

摘要:
A new geometric format, thebjcoefficient map, is here introduced, the entries in which are the {0, l} coefficient values of the Reed-Muller Exclusive-OR expansions by which any given combinatorial function may be expressed. Although similar in format to the classic Karnaugh map, thebjmap entries do not represent the function output in the same manner as do the minterm entries plotted on a Karnaugh map. It is shown that this coefficient map structure may readily be used to generate any required Exclusive-OR realisation of a given function, and provides a deeper insight into the coefficient relationships which arise when input variables are complemented in any Exclusive-OR expansion.

摘要:
The problems of transferring variables between processors and the lack of parallelism in a 2nd-order digital filter section are discussed. An approach which overcomes these problems is presented and an implementation employing the approach is described.

摘要:
The problem of memory contention in digital scan converters (DSC) is discussed. The role of the microprocessor in DSC design is examined, and the importance of uninterrupted display in the development and use of image-processing algorithms is stressed. The drawbacks inherent in interrupt and in direct memory access are pointed out and an elegant scheme using the CPU ‘READY’ feature is suggested as an alternative, cycles during which memory contention could occur are predictable, and during these cycles the CPU is prevented from addressing the store. A specific implementation is described using the TMS9900 microprocessor in a DSC displaying sector-scanned sonar images. Timing problems are discussed in detail.

摘要:
Several FIR digital filter implementations are developed for the case where the input signal, the specified impulse response, or both, are in delta-modulated form. They are simple and do not require multiplication.
