摘要:
AbstractWith the advent of modern electronic distance measuring equipment, the possibility of carrying out long precise traverses economically has now become a reality and, at present, many remote areas, hitherto unsurveyed, are being controlled by this means. Recent accounts have described traversing by Tellurometer in Australia and Kenya where, because of the nature of the terrain, traverses have been run along existing roads, using towers in order to obtain a reasonable length of line in flat bush country. When one considers the amount of flat bush-covered and forested conntry in various parts of the world, the scope for this type of control would there is in various parts of the world, the scope for this type of control would seem to be very great indeed. It offers a means of providing accurate control quickly and cheaply, following on the opening up of an area by the first roads.

摘要:
AbstractAn examination is made of the technique of the circum-elongation observation for azimuth and of the systematic and random errors associated with the method. It is shown that the method will yield azimuth results of precision and accuracy comparable with those of more generally accepted methods and is thus worthy of more consideration than is usually the case. An example worked from a typical observation is included in Appendix A at the end.

摘要:
AbstractThe next programme is an extension of the last, with the object of solving and adjusting any survey network problem given as data: coordinates, bases, azimuths, distances, angles, and bearings. Since storage is at a premium in a small computer, the inclusion of the extra facilities must be paid for by a small reduction in the size of network that the machine can handle. Even so, there are some limitations on the processing of bases and azimuths which will be considered in its place; but there is none on the most important addition, namely that of adjustment of observed distances.

摘要:
AbstractThe summation of squares occurs frequently in statistical problems. It is important that this computation be checked before proceeding with the rest of the solution. Duplicate computations are not recommended because it is possible to make the same mistake twice.

摘要:
AbstractPresent formulae for transformation of latitude, longitude, and geoid height between ellipsoids and datums are either not sufficiently accurate for geodetic work or so complex as to be suitable only for use with electronic computers. This paper proposes a differential formula which combines simplicity with sufficient rigor and which can be worked with the aid of a desk calculator and six-figure tables of sines and cosines.

摘要:
AbstractThe article describes the construction of an oblique stereographic graticule on a transparent overlay for use with published star charts plotted on the polar stereographic projection. The planisphere presents, for every instant of any time system, a continuous display of the altitude, azimuth and hour angle of all stars shown on the star chart which are visible from the observer's latitude, and it can be used for both prediction and identification. A particularly useful feature is the facility for the instantaneous determination of elongation data.

摘要:
AbstractFifty-three teachers of surveying met in Lincoln Hall, University of Nottingham, on the 19th and 20th December, 1964, to discuss matters of mutual interest. They came from Universities and other Institutions of higher education situated in all parts of the British Isles, from Departments of Surveying and Photogrammetry, Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering and Geography.
