摘要:
AbstractA method is considered for determining level sensitivity without removing the level from the instrument. This has application for the hanging level and Horrebow-Talcott levels of the T-4 Wild theodolite, the Zenith Wanschaff Telescope and similar instruments.By rotating the instrument in an inclined plane, set in advance, the inclination angle varies as a function of the azimuths.

摘要:
AbstractThis short note is intended primarily to clear up some current misunderstandings about the Transverse Mercator projection, but also covers a few points of general interest in conformal projections.

摘要:
AbstractDuring researches into cadastral surveying, the author was referred to an article by W. C. van der Sterr which had appeared in the Journal of the Institute of Land Surveyors of Transvaal. It was of course written in the South African context but it has a relevance elsewhere, especially in the field of integrated surveys and in any considerations as to the merits of sporadic or systematic surveys. What seems to be of interest is that it was written in 1912.

摘要:
AbstractOne of the first HP 3800B Distance Meters to reach Britain was delivered to the Royal School of Mines shortly before Easter 1972. Since that time the instrument has been used for a variety of purposes, but most heavily during field courses with undergraduate and postgraduate students. As a result of this usage some comments on the equipment and its accuracy can be made.

摘要:
AbstractThe parameters of the Everest spheroid were obtained by George Everest by an arc-measuring method. In this method, sections of meridional arcs are measured by triangulation. Astronomical observations are made at selected points along the arc between the terminals. The differences between geodetic and astronomical latitudes are found out on a preliminary reference spheroid. The position of the arcs on the preliminary reference spheroid and the parameters of the spheroid are then changed to minimise the differences between geodetic and astronomic latitudes. Each separate arc gives a separate solution. Several arc measurements are then combined to give a common spheroid. Everest deduced the parameters of his spheroid from consideration of the arcs Punnae–Kalianpur and Greenwich–Formentera.

摘要:
AbstractBecause lengths measured by electromagnetic instruments are supplementing or replacing angular measurements, it is essential that all required geometric corrections be applied in their reduction to the ellipsoid in accordance with Helmert's projection method. A correction to sea level distance for an approximate geoidal height is in general insufficient. It is necessary to determine thedifferencesbetween heights above the ellipsoid of the ends of steep lines, for which astro-geodetic deflections are needed.
