摘要:
AbstractThis is an account of experiments in obtaining the heights of points in forested country, by hovering over them and reading the altimeter in the aircraft. Techniques for measuring the height of the helicopter above ground, and for correcting for the pressure disturbance caused by the rotating blades, were tested.

AbstractThe application ofa prioristatistical methods for precision assessment in the field of intersection problems in survey appears to lead to a paradoxical result.

摘要:
AbstractTo overcome the problems of running a subtense traverse along a busy street, or over cultivated farmlands etc., the high tripod shown in the photograph was devised. The bottom section of each leg of a wooden telescopic tripod was replaced by a 10-ft-long aluminium pipe, into which was driven a wooden joining piece suitably shaped to fit into the top section of the tripod leg; then the conversion of the standard tripod into the high one takes only a few minutes.

摘要:
AbstractProjections which preserve the true bearing at any point to one specified fixed point have generally been regarded as amusing curiosities, because their special property is of no particular value for normal mapping purposes. There is not much reference to such projections in the literature. J. I. Craig's“Mecca”projection, and the Weir Azimuth Diagram, are probably the best known examples, and these are to be regarded as graphical aids for certain purposes, religious devotion and astronomical observation respectively.
