Effect of mercerization‐stretching on vinyl graft polymerization of cotton |

AbstractScoured ply cotton yarn was slack mercerized and slack mercerized followed by restretching the yarn in the mercerizing solution to 90, 94, 96, 100, and 103% of the original length. The six substrates so obtained together with scoured cotton were grafted independently with methyl methacrylate and acrylonitrile using ceric ammonium nitrate as initiator. The extent and rate of grafting found with slack mercerized cotton were significantly higher than those of scoured cotton irrespective of monomer used.The same holds, but lo lesser degree, good for slack mercerized cotton followed by restretching to 90% of original length. Different situation was encountered with slack mercerized cotton followed by restretching to 94 and 103%; these substrates showed lower extent and rate of grafting than scoured cotton. Moreover, the extent and rate of grafting decreased by increasing the magnitude of stretching. Similar trend was observed when all the said substrates were subjected to oxidation with ceric ions. AbstractDispersionen anionischer Polyurethane mit SO −3‐Gruppen und Na+als Gegenionen wurden durch Ionenaustausch mit anderen Kationen (H+, Ag+, Ca++, Ba++, Ni++, Cu++, Zn++, Pb++und AI+++) versehen. 摘要:
AbstractAm Beispiel von Copolymeren aus Styrol und Butadien wird gezeigt, daß die Haftung des Metalls bei der galvanischen Metallisierung vom Gehalt an Butadien abhängt.Bei einem Butadiengehalt von ∼73 Gew.‐% beträgt die Abzugsfestigkeit der galvanischen Schicht ∼60 N/25 mm, wenn mit klassischen Vorbeizen aus Chromtrioxid, Schwefelsäure und Phosphorsäure gearbeitet wird. Spektroskopisch wird nachgewiesen, daß die Verwendung dieser Beizen zu einer irreversiblen Verankerung von Chrom und Schwefel an der Polymeroberfläche führt. AbstractThe porous structure of both the powdered poly(ethylene terephthalate) and polyamide 6 prepared by reprecipitation from the melt of 6‐caprolactam was studied using the combination of a penetration method and a sorption one. The measurements of the apparent density and of the real one were used for the porosity measurements. The pore size measurement by means of the mercury penetration was used for the pore distribution in the range of macropores (7500–15.8 nm). In the range of mesopores (15.8–1.8 nm), the pore measurement by means of the benzene desorption isotherm at 298 K was used for the pore distribution determination. As for the powdered poly(ethylene terephthalate), the porosity was found in the range from 50 to 80%, the volume of mesopores was in the range from 0.2 to 0.5 cm3g−1, and the volume of the macropores ranged from 1.5 to 2.8 cm3g−1. The powdered polyamide 6 did not contain any mesopores and the volume of the macropores was as high as 0.7 cm3g−1.When using further lactams of ω‐aminoacids, i.e. 2‐pyrrolidone, 8‐capryllactam, 12‐laurinlactam, as melt solvents for a preparation of the powdered poly(ethylene terephthalate), it resulted in decreasing of the specific surface area, porosity and furthermore by an abse
