AbstractDie gemeinsame Kondensation von Phenol, Melamin und Formaldehyd wurde unter Variation der Herstellungsbedingungen (pH‐Wert, Molverhältnis der Edukte) untersucht. Durch Gelpermeationschromatographie,13C‐NMR‐Spektroskopie und Thermogravimetrie konnte gezeigt werden, daß die Reaktivität des Phenols gegenüber Formaldehyd bei kleinen pH‐Werden noch gering ist, während sie im alkalischen Gebiet stark ansteigt. Bei Melamin liegen die Verhältnisse umgekehrt. Deshalb kommt es weder im sauren noch im alkalischen Milieu zur Bildung von Cokondensaten aus Melamin und Phenol mit Formaldehyd. Eine kontrollierbare Reaktion, die durch Ausnutzung der Acetonverträglichkeit und Trübungstemperatur verfolgt werden kann, ist zwischen pH

AbstractBei der Härtung von Phenol‐Melamin‐Formaldehyd‐Vorkondensaten konnte mit Hilfe quantitativer Formaldehydbestimmungen und thermogravimetrischer Untersuchungen der Zeitpunkt der vollständigen Aushärtung bestimmt werden. Am System p‐Kresol/Melamin/Formaldehyd gelang in den gehärteten Produkten die vollständige extraktive Trennung der p‐Kresol‐ und Melaminkomponenten und deren Charakterisierung mit Hilfe der IR‐Spektroskopie. Dies beweist, daß bei der Härtung keine Cokondensate zwischen p‐Kresol und Melamin gebildet werden. Aufgrund der chemischen ähnlichkeit von Phenol und p‐Kresol kann dieses Ergebnis auf das System Phenol/Melamin/Formaldehyd übertragen werden. AbstractPolymers which display liquid crystalline phases are characterized by an orientational order already in the isotropic melt. This order which increases with decreasing temperature involves a parallel local alignment of neighbouring molecules as well as an orientation correlation between molecular axes and the vector, connecting molecular centers. Pretransitional effects take place both at the nematic phase transition and at a second phase transition, occurring at low temperatures.

AbstractDivinylidene compounds with isolated double bonds of the typeare quantitatively transformed into soluble dilithio organic compounds with sBuLi and may be used as bifunctional initiators for the anionic polymerization of butadiene (B) and subsequently styrene (S). Beside the expected SBS block copolymers also SB block copolymers are obtained because of partial termination of the dilithio compounds.By means of GPC analysis of the reaction compounds, i.e., of the homopolybutadiene, the blockcopolymers and the homopolystyrene after oxidative degradation using dual detection it is proved that the bifunctional species because of intramolecular association adds the monomer with significantly lower rate than the monofunctially growing species. Choosing suitable conditions the rate differences may be minimized.

AbstractMultiblock copolymers with both blocks consisting of statistical copolymers are prepared by radical copolymerization. Starting from a radical polyinitiator a poly(styrene‐co‐butadiene) containing azogroups is obtained by bulk polymerization. The block length is determined after reductive cleavage. Decomposition of the residual azogroups in presence of styrene/acrylonitrile results in poly((styrene‐co‐butadiene)‐block(styrene‐co‐acrylonitrile)). A two phase morphology is revealed by dynamic mechanical analysis and electron microscopy. Depending on the ratio styrene/butadiene to styrene/acrylonitrile thermoplastic elastomeric poly(styrene‐co‐butadiene) or high impact poly(styrene‐co‐acrylonitrile) are obtained. The creep behaviour of the thermoplastic elastomer can be described by discrete relaxation times. AbstractEmulsions of polyethylacrylate using sodium dodecylsulfate, cetylpyridinium chloride or nonylphenol ethoxylate as anionic, cationic and nonionic emulsifiers were prepared and the polymer deposition on metal panels in presence of an acid and an oxidizing agent was studied. Homogeneous films are formed within limited concentration ranges of the reactants. Diluted hydrofluoric acid and diluted hydrogen peroxide are useful components. Instead of a chemical oxidant a potential of 250 to 500 mV or more may be applied. The iron ion content of the film was determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy. A ratio of iron to emulsifier of 4.1 : 1 was found. The distribution of iron in film cross‐cuts by scanning electron microscopy using the energy dispersive technique shows a high iron concentration near the metal interface and a sharp drop towards the film surface. In the outer third of the film the ratio iron to emulsifier is nearly 1 : 1. By adding iron salt solutions to polyethylacrylate emulsions the coagulation point was determined and a ratio iron ion to emulsifier of 1 : 1.2 was found in the coagulate. AbstractEs ist bekannt, daß Schallemissionssignale, die bei der Belastung polymerer Verbundwerkstoffe im Kurzzeit‐Zugversuch auftreten, Indikatoren für das lastabhängige Einsetzen bestimmter Schädigungsmechanismen darstellen.Am Beispiel von Polycarbonat mit unterschiedlichen Füllstoffgehalten wird nachgewiesen, daß sich die Höhe einer statisch einaxial wirkenden Last auf den Charakter der während des Kriechens emittierten Signale auswirkt. Es wird weiterhin aufgezeigt, daß sich durch SE‐Messungen der Zeitpunkt einer signifikanten änderung im Schädigungsfortschritt während des Zeitraumes des sekundären Kriechens ausweisen läßt.Aus den Resultaten der beschriebenen Messungen wird geschlossen, daß die SE‐Meßtechnik, zumindest für den geprüften Lastbereich, als Methode zur rechtzeitigen Warnung vor dem ultimativen Prüfk

AbstractThe compatibility of an ethylene‐acrylic rubber (R) with poly (chloroprene) (CR) and two chlorinated poly‐ethylenes, containing 48 (CPE 48) and 25 (CPE 25) wt.‐% chlorine, was investigated. Blends with the latter polymer were studied in the complete composition range. The techniques used were phase‐contrast microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic mechanical and stress‐strain testing. The single Tgrelaxation of blends and its almost linear variation with composition, together with results obtained using the techniques mentioned, support the view that the systems are miscible at the segmental level. At low rubber contents an antiplasticisation effect was observed for the R/CPE 25 system. At high rubber compositions a small reduction of crystallinity and a melting point depression of the PE phase in CPE were observed.
