摘要:
This article follows the development of surgical diathermy equipment from the early part of this century to the present day. The principles of operation of both valve/spark gap and solid state units are given and some of the hazards associated with the use of diathermy discussed. The two main types of output circuit, the rf earth referred and the fully isolated are discussed and their relative merits and failings compared. Some advice is also offered on the selection and purchase of diathermy equipment.

Medical physics services in Nottinghamshire are provided by staff grouped into three local departments giving the benefit of localised‘personal service’to the staff of the major hospitals in each district, but backed up by the resources of a larger group. The reasons and implications of this organisation, unique in the UK, are discussed.

摘要:
The blood flow variation observed in thermal entrainment experiments is not consistent with the blood flow variation observed in other experimental techniques for the study of thermoregulation. The inconsistency is resolved by demonstrating that the flow variations obtained during thermal entrainment experiments are primarily due to the sympathetic vasoconstrictive reflex. The reflex is elicited by the abrupt charges in the body's environment which the experimental procedure of thermal entrainment presently involves.

摘要:
A uroflowmeter was designed to automatically measure how often patients without bladder sensation urinate and the volume of each urination. The device, based on an optical sensor which monitors and records each 10-ml increment in voided volume, can be operated by non-technical personnel and is accurate, safe, reliable and relatively inexpensive.

摘要:
An instrument has been designed and manufactured to measure the forces encountered during surgical dilatation of the uterine cervix. The cervical resistance of 240 patients has been measured. Initial results show lower resistance in pregnant patients compared to non-pregnant and in multiparas compared to nulliparas.
