摘要:
AbstractThe well‐known techniques of the so‐called high sensitivity FM demodulation namely the frequency feedback (FMFB) and the phase locked loop (PLL) systems can be considered as variations of FM detection system using tracking filters. The fact that FM signals can be demodulated by such systems shows that the energy of the FM wave is concentrated in a narrow band around the instantaneous frequency. The purpose of this paper is to show that such a system configuration for FM detection arises naturally from the phase‐plane study of the forced behaviour of a quasi‐linear second‐order differential equation to narrow band signals bearing amplitude and/or phase modulation. A nonlinear filter is synthesized which is designed to offer wide bandwidth to phase modulation vis‐a‐vis amplitude modulation. The filtering scheme is simulated on the digital computer and the desired behaviour verified by observing the response to a step change in phase and amplitude of the input sinu

摘要:
AbstractA computer‐aided synthesis method is described for multi‐port RC networks with every capacitor having one terminal grounded and a resistor connected in general between every pair of nodes. The method utilizes an iterative minimization technique for the realization of short‐circuit admittance functions. A degree of flexibility in the topology is possible in that certain of the resistors can be eliminated. The synthesis method is particularly suitable for integrated circuits as it yields structures with the minimum value of total capacitance as well as the minimum number of capac

摘要:
AbstractA general class of networks consisting of cascaded commensurate transmission lines and shunt imaginary conductances is considered. This kind of network performs an excellent approximation to transmission line networks with shunt stubs or lumped elements. The realizability conditions for the driving‐point admittance and transfer function have been given in a previous paper. The imaginary conductances were generated by introducing an extra phase angle into the scattering function. In the present paper two alternative methods are given1by identifying in different ways the roots of the numerator polynomial in the input scattering function.2by using non‐symmetric gain functions. The influence of different factorizations and non‐symmetric gain functions upon the element values variation is exa

摘要:
AbstractThe wiring problem is usually transformed into a graphtheoretical analysis‐synthesis problem. For a practical algorithm it is necessary that certain constraints are taken into account in the construction of the respective graph. These constraints originate from the desire to place terminals—eventually in a previously determined sequence—at the periphery of the board or the wiring layer of an integrated circuit (IC). For printed boards we can also have some demands regarding the sequence of contacts and the side on which the components have to be placed. The purpose of this paper is to show how these requirements, which are indispensible for a proper printed board layout, can be examined. Some of these requirements have not appeared in literature before. The inquiry consists of two separate tests, each eventually combined with modification steps. The details of these modifications are not a subject of this paper. In the last section the content of this paper is compared with other publications in this

摘要:
AbstractA method is presented for determining the transfer‐functionH(z) of an asymptotically stable digital filter on the basis of a prescription for phase in a certain frequency interval. The restrictions to be imposed on the prescribed phase function are investigated. It is possible to make amplitude prescription in addition. The results will be demonstrated with the aid of a simple exampl

摘要:
AbstractMethods of field and network theory are jointly applied to the problem of transverse aperture‐type discontinuities in cascade under the conditions of multimodal excitation and interaction. A space Fourier transformation (modal analysis) translates the field problem into a network problem, whereby discontinuities take the significance of Hilbert‐ports à la Zemanian. When a discontinuity is considered as enclosed by an ideal cavity, representing energy storage in the ‘localized’ modes, Foster's form of the reactance matrix of the discontinuity is recovered. The relationship with the variational method in computing the resonance matrix of the ‘accessible’ modes is illustrated. Green's function of cascaded apertures is obtained by finite network analysis. A few examples of thick interacting inductive irises in cascade are numerically investigated. Results show very good agreement wit

摘要:
AbstractThe return difference matrixF(s) of a multivariable control system with respect to its gain elements is obtainable directly from the inverse transfer matrixT−1(s), which is in turn derived (by elimination of undriven node groups) from the coefficient matrix of the set of independent differential equations describing the system. Thus, no knowledge of the system's topology is required in order to obtainF(s). Furthermore, the inverse of one of the submatrices ofT−1(s) yields the idealized response, if all gain elements are assumed to exhibit infinite g

摘要:
AbstractA method is presented for determining the sensitivities of multivariable control systems and feedback‐stabilized multiple‐amplifier active circuits. The derivation is based on the inverse transfer matrix, from which the return difference matrix with respect to a particular set of elements is obtainable directly for properly‐chosen variables. When the sensitivities are determined with respect to the gain elements and all local loop transmissions are high, the local return differences can be substituted by the corresponding negative return ratios, which simplifies the resulting relationships greatly if no interaction exists between the various gain elements. A related problem occurs with feedback circuits, for which the desirable stabilizing looptransmissions cannot be identified by inspection. In this case, the return difference matrix yields the formal answer. Two practical examples are
