摘要:
AbstractA unified approach—based on Padé Approximants—is presented for the design of simultaneous equal constraints non‐minimum phase distributed filters. The results obtained indicate that this method is more general than previous methods, and allow considerable freedom for the control of both amplitude and delay. The procedure outlined can apply for any transfer function with arbitrary character

摘要:
AbstractA new procedure for the existence and the determination of terminal equations for the hybrid interconnection of twon‐port networks is given. It is shown that this procedure generalizes the previous works of Duffin, Trapp and Mitra for the hybrid sum of terminal impedance matrices which are either Hermitian positive semi‐definite (HSD) or arbitrary matrices with complex entries. For the application of the new procedure it is shown that eachn‐port need not be terminal solvable or well defined. In fact, even in the case of active RLCn‐ports considered in sinusoidal steady‐state, the previous results of Duffin, Mitra and Trapp established for HSD matrices or arbitrary complex matrices can still be utilized with the use of modified terminal equations, to obtain the terminal equations of the resultingn‐port networks. It is also noted that the method introduced in this paper is independent of the choice of generaliz

摘要:
AbstractA new class of lowpass rational transfer functions is defined, with equal‐ripple behaviour both in the passband and in the stopband. The proposed functions have a multiple real pole, which allows the realization of lowpass RC‐active filters by cascading more (than one) 3rd‐order blocks. These new functions, called multiple real‐pole equal‐ripple rational (MRPER), improve the attenuation performance with respect to a classical solution employing the same number of 2nd‐order blocks and hence may allow a reduction in the required number of active elements and, eventually, in power consumption and in noise‐to‐signal ratio. However, even if the number of active blocks cannot be reduced, the better attenuation performance, which results, allows component tole

摘要:
AbstractIn this paper, we establish that some of the generalized linear phase polynomials defined in Reference 1 are Hurwitz. The demonstration consists in showing that the ratio of two linear phase polynomials is a positive real function. The corresponding network interpretation with closed‐form element values is then given, which yields at the same time the reflection‐filter synthesis of the non‐minimum phase, non‐reciprocal transfer functions introduced in Refe

摘要:
AbstractOptimization of element tolerances is a very important but also time consuming part of integrated circuit design. In this paper an algorithm is presented for the worst case optimal assignment of large change tolerances, in which a significant simplification of the problem is obtained for a class of linear circuits. This is due to taking advantage of the bilinear dependence of the network functions on element values and to some simplifications assumed. The minimal cost of the circuit is the objective function.

摘要:
AbstractA generally applicable theory for multiport orthogonal digital filter synthesis is discussed, using a direct algebraic method. Standard (complex) degree 1 and irreducible (real) degree 2 chain scattering matrices are derived and the computability problem which normally occurs in such filters is discussed and solved for the general case. It is shown that any finite causal and lossless real multivariate system can be realized as a computationally compatible cascade of real degree 1 and degree 2 factors consisting of an orthogonal constant interconnecting part and a lossless dynamic portion. In order to increase the practical interest of the paper, realizations of these sections are explicitly given. The known scalar wave digital filter ‘adaptors’ emerge as a special case of the theory presented in this paper. The general results are of interest in multiport digital signal processing, in multivariate interpolation theory and in multichannel prediction and modelling theory and techniq

AbstractA new network element is presented which can be of interest for synthesizing non‐linearn‐ports. It is shown that the use ofnD–T adaptors reduces the problem to the synthesis of a multidimensional transfer‐characteristic (TC) plot. Some examples are given to show the applicability of the procedure and its ability to make a convenient use of integrated tec

摘要:
AbstractA structure‐independent synthesis procedure for RC‐active networks, which performs the synthesis process by successive matrix expansion steps, allows the straightforward realization of networks with arbitrary tunable parameters. Since the desired behaviour of the realized circuit may be strongly affected by the frequency‐dependent imperfections of the active devices used for practical circuit construction, a compensation of the resulting root displacements of the network's characteristic equation is needed. The particular properties of the synthesis technique lead to an immediate relation between the root displacement caused by a single matrix transformation step and the information being available when this step is executed. Following a brief description of the synthesis process, this relation is derived and then used to establish a compensating circuitry which has to be added to the synthesized network structure in order to achieve the compensation effect required

摘要:
AbstractThe average network theorist answers this question by speaking about the interchange of the roles of voltage and current, while the average mathematician uses orthogonal vector spaces for his definition (as in mathematical programming, matroid theory, etc.). What is even worse, both of them believe that the two definitions are essentially the same. The main aim of the present paper is to show that this is the case for reciprocal networks only. Hence, in the theory of non‐reciprocal networks, two entirely different voltage‐current symmetries exist. We also show that both concepts are naturally related to the same, well known, duality principle of graph theory which also explains why nobody seems to have observed this phenomenon till
