摘要:
Reaction time and absolute thresholds for acoustic stimuli were measured in cats using an operant reaction‐time procedure in conjunction with titration methodology. The reaction‐time/titration procedure incorporated a self‐paced feature and utilized a photobeam operandum developed for the cat. Absolute auditory thresholds, measured in two animals for frequencies between 0.25 and 8.0 kHz, compared favorably with published threshold data for the cat. Both threshold and reaction time were influenced by the test and stimulus conditions. A method of estimating the effect of guessing was developed that eliminates the need for catch trials. The reaction‐time/titration threshold procedure appears to be an effective method for use with the cat.

摘要:
Two experiments were accomplished which involved time‐intensity trades on a lateralization task. In the first experiment, subjects adjusted interaural time differences between binaural stimuli to compensate for interaural intensity disparities. In the second, the same listeners adjusted the interaural intensity relationship to offset interaural time differences. Three pure tones (250, 500, and 1000 Hz) were employed as binaural stimuli. The two experiments yielded substantially different time‐intensity trading ratios for large values of interaural time differences and intensity disparities. This finding supplies evidence of a new type that the time‐intensity trading ratio does not accurately reflect the central auditory processes that are involved with interaural time and intensity on a lateralization task.

摘要:
Ten stutterers and ten nonstutterers read ’’The Rainbow Passage.’’ Intervocalic voiceless stop consonant segments were selected and displayed on wide‐band spectrograms. Results of VOT measurements obtained indicated that (1) the stutterers displayed longer VOT values than the nonstutterers, and (2) VOT values increased in duration as place of articulation moved back in the oral cavity.

摘要:
Ten normal adult speakers produced the alveolar consonants /t, d, n, s, z/ in VCV bisyllables embedded in a carrier sentence. The stimulus consonants were produced in the symmetrical contexts /j/ and /a/ under voiced and whispered speaking conditions. Spectrographic analysis of steady‐state portions of vowels and closure and constriction durations for consonants revealed significant durational differences associated with speaking conditions for /t, d, s, z, i, a/. Durational effects for /n/ were nonsignificant. Implications with regard to the Schwartz hypothesis [J. Acoust. Soc. Am. 51, 2025–2029 (1972)] that individuals prolong air‐arresting articulatory gestures in whispered speech are discussed.
