AbstractGasification and pyrolysis of sewage sludges.Gasification and pyrolysis of sewage sludge were examined as alternatives to sewage sludge combustion. For this purpose, experimental gasification and pyrolysis tests were carried out with primary sewage sludge of Emschergenossenschaft. Main objective of these tests was the evaluation of yields and qualitites for products gained via sludge gasification or pyrolysis and an assessment of the environmentally relevant properties of the related residues. Both process alternatives enable the utilization of sewage sludge without any negative impact on the environment. Due to the total use of the organic components out of the sewage sludge in combination with an almost complete utilization resulting from the valuable hydrogen produced, gasification is an attractive alternative compared to the burning of sewage sludge, both from an environmental and an economic point of view. In the case of sewage sludge pyrolysis a portion of the organic components, however, will remain in the pyrolysis residue. Therefore, pyrolysis allows only a minor reduction of the residual product.

AbstractState of development of high‐temperature combustion and flue gas purification — illustrated for two current construction projects.The state of the art in rotary furnace combustion plant is described with the aid of two current construction projects for a chemical plant and for a publicly accessible plant. The concepts of the plant are adapted to the waste material to be disposed of, the energy utilisation system, and disposal of the residual materials. Data for the chemical plant indicate higher concentrations and fluctuations in the flue gas constituents. Flue gas scrubbing is accomplished here by quenching, passage, through two rotary scrubbers, and wet electrofiltration. Scrubber liquid is passed to a company purification plant. In the other case, no waste water may occur. A two‐field electrofilter and a two‐stage milk of lime washer are employed. Washing liquid is passed to a waste water treatment unit with vacuum evaporation. Special process engineering measures are necessary to maintain pure gas values even in cases of pronounced concentration fluctuations. 摘要:
AbstractSimulation framework for dynamic process simulation for industrial purposes.After a brief treatment of the general requirements of simulation software, the article presents the simulation program SATU86 developed at Hoechst AG. SATU86 permits modular model construction, has a clear user surface and allows a wide range of simulations and identifications, with facilities of tabular and graphic output both during and after simulation. An example of a project serves to illustrate the essential characteristics of SATU86. Apart from development of calculational models in SATU86 the main uses are identification, simulation, and presentation of results.

AbstractDesign of an incinerator for industrial waste.For many years rotary kilns have been used in combination with an afterburner chamber followed by a steam boiler at BASF to incinerate the waste of chemical plants. Six incineration lines are available at the moment. As the amount of waste is always increasing an additional incinerator was necessary on increasing the incineration capacity a new flue gas cleaning system would have to be installed, not only for the new incinerator but also for the flue gas of five of the existing furnaces. The cleaning system will be done in two lines, each of them consists of an electric precipitator and a multistage scrubber. In order to design the new incinerator line, not only many operating conditions and legal prerequisites but also constructional and combustion requirements had to be considered. While the design of the rotary kiln is based essentially on empirical coefficients, e. g. on the burning load related to the furnace volume, the design of the afterburner chamber was made by the help of a numerical computation model supported by experimental model investigations. A further focal point was optimizing the operation of the waste burner which gave a primary reduction of the NOxemission.
